Alpha 16mm pcb mount pots in US, where to buy?

Post by skylab001 »

I've been trying to find a source for the alpha 16mm pc mount pots used in the Oakley modules here in the US. I thought mouser/digikey/newark would have them but I haven't been able to find them. Mouser only had the solder lugs, and thats the closest I've come. It seems like futurelec sells them, but it looks like a crap shoot since they don't give you any details, not sure I'd end up with the right ones. so far these are the only parts holding me up. I thought they'd be simple to find since I've used alpha's all over my other projects, but they were all solder lugs.

What's the best way to mount the PCB if I used the solder lug versions and flew the wires to the board?

Welcome!

This thread mentions a couple places, and Alpha as an alternative brand:

Now, that's reasonably priced!

I couldn't find the brand mentioned on the HP. Are these actual Alpha pots?

Futurlec is from the US but they ship orders from within Europe from their UK branch? No import duties?

It just sounds to good. :zombie:

Tony have you actually bought them from futurlec.com? I saw them there but wasn't sure if I'd get the right ones since they don't offer much info as far as specs go and they never responded to my inquiry.

No, I tend to buy all my pots from Rapid and also occasionally from Banzai. Rapid's pots have too long a shaft for Moogy knobs but I use different knobs on my modular so I can get away with the longer shaft. Fnarr...

However, those pots on the Futurelec site look the right ones to me. The close up photos on the site certainly look like Alphas. The mounting hole size is 7.5mm which suggests 16mm pots too.

Certainly worth a punt I would say.

Mouser has BL pots which are the same format(and they are cheap), but conductive plastic, I have used a few of them and not noticed any problems, but of course i can not say how reliable they will be in the future.

Yep, I can vouch for that, too, as I just received an order today. Took about 2 weeks to get here to the US with standard shipping. Or maybe 1.5 weeks and it seemed like 2 :)

Is Futurlec still a good place to get these pots?
