Examples of working SD cards? You can help!
New TO owner here. I understand I need a 2Gb SD card. However, the ones I have bought don't work, so before I try every 2Gb SD card I can find, could you just post which ones you are using successfully with the TO? Thanks!

What kind of SD card are you using?
2Gb limit would suggest it's an original type of SD card - later types (SDHC & SDXC) are unlikely to work.
I don't have a Tenori-On by the way, but have had to deal with many devices fussy about their memory

Hi.
You have to find a card that supports SPI mode. Unfortunately, this information is not easy to come by, and in some cases, what the manufacturers say isn't true. For me it was pot luck; I just bought anything I saw on ebay for a couple of weeks... and around 50% of cards were supported.
2Gb is definitely the maximum, but none of the TNR files are very big, so you don't need much room.
These are the ones I have that work: These are the ones I have that don't work: I hope that helps.
..pika..

Pika many thanks!
Funny enough I now bought that exact Transcend 2GB SD you list as not working, and it works just fine.
What doesn't work for me is the hama 2GB SD (4). This is with the Tenori-On "orange".
PS I just installed your improved firmware. Thank you for your work on that, pretty dope!

Thanks, found the info about the SD only and 2GB max, that's all good and documented. Just not which ones actually work, but Pika has added some info, so let's hope we can add some more to the list. No fun buying random 2GB cards that I don't need anywhere else anymore just to find out of they work or not.

OK, so I tried again with that card, and still no joy. I get "illegal media" when I try to do anything to it.fablesofsilence wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 11:32 am Funny enough I now bought that exact Transcend 2GB SD you list as not working, and it works just fine.
This is a bit worrying and suggests it might be batch rather than manufacturer dependent, so the idea of making a list of all working cards might be tricky...
I think all standard SD cards are meant to support SPI mode, so the issue might not be exactly that. At some point I'll dig around in the TNR's SD card initialisation steps and check that they are fully in line with the spec; perhaps what the TNR is doing is on the edge of what is permissible and a few more waits would permit more cards to be read.
No problems - just let me know if you find any bugs.fablesofsilence wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 11:32 am PS I just installed your improved firmware. Thank you for your work on that, pretty dope!
