Sutter / glitch / repeat in hardware?

Post by Jee »

Hi,

I'm using a bunch of VST's for stutter / glitch and beat repeat stuff and I was wondering if there are any hardware FX boxes that cover these applications.
The VST I use the most for this are:
- Meldaproduction MRhythmizer (probably my favorite)
- Sugar Bytes Turnado
- Sugar Bytes Looperator
- Izotope Stutter Edit

I would need a USB input to be able to use a MIDI Fighter to triggers different FX ideally + MIIDI clock to get everthing in sync properly (Im' not a fan of tap tempo).
Any recommendation?
thanks :)

EDIT: I obviously meant "stutter" in the title :) typo error, I can't edit the title...

Interesting but pretty oriented around the bit crusher. I fear I won't have the control I want with it live but seems pretty creative, still.

VT stuff is for voice processing isn't it? Did I miss something? Not sure it fits my bill of charge here.

I have a Red Panda Particle V2 (forgot to mention it), which I find absolutely amazing (especially on drums).
MASF Possessed seem to overlap with the particle a bit.
Tensor is already on the radar, looks super cool :)

I heard of it (we see it on a lot of YT videos) but never explored it. Which looks like a mistake! Seems amazing. I will investigate :)

Overall, I'm surprised that there is no "replica" of the VST's I mention in my first post. Something with "FX slots" you could simply trigger with a keyboard (or push button on the machine) and a set of customizable effects chains in each slot.
I also was wondering if the Empress Zoia could do this...

It's possible Tech was referring to the Roland Scooper, which is indeed from the AIRA line, it just a bit older.

Ha OK. Well I'm looking for a stand alone device so no Eurorack.
Maybe Microcosm is really worth a look.
Red means recording video on it was pretty instructive and it might be able to do what I want, even though not the way I expected originally...

Microcosm is great for glitch sounds... The Empress Zoia as well, the Zoia is probably a bit better actually, but
you have to design the effect yourself as the included presets are not that great.

I understand you're probably looking for something different, but (just fyi) the Roland Scooper is a desktop unit, with it's own power supply. It just so happens that it can optionally be mounted in a eurorack case.

+1 on Microcosm. Pricey but lots of options plus MIDI etc.

Blooper also has some great options if you're looping. The new Habit seems to do some of the same stuff in a delay format.

If anyone's interested:

Here is a weak 1 min example of glitch with the Zoia on some drums and a drone from a montreal assembly Purppl, comprised of a granular module, some switches, a couple pitch shifters, sample & hold and LFO modulation. *shrug

OK I didn't understand, thanks for pointing out. I will have a closer look, just in case I would miss something interesting ;)

Any delay with tails can do stutters if you quickly turn it on and off

Also take a look at old boss delays: ps3 and rv3 can make cool stuttery sounds when twisting the time knob and ps2 doesn't clean the audio buffer when you change modes, so playing with mode switch can give you awesome textures

MASF Possessed and Raptio. Possessed doesn't do the same thing as Particle in my opinion.

+1 for Red Panda Particle - version2 has tap tempo. If you ever see Low live, Alan Sparhawk makes some beautiful noise with it.
