Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I just screwed this in and turned to the first wave. I sent it a super-slow LFO, turned a pot, and WOW! This just became my favorite oscillator! What an excellent-sounding module!!! So much "depth" and "fidelity" to its timbres—weird and otherworldly-sounding—right up my alley! Worth every penny and more! Now I see why people buy multiples of this—so glad I bought one! Instead of people telling n00bs to buy a Plaits, they should tell them to buy a Klavis Twin Waves! Bravo—well done, Klavis!!!

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
It is strange that you have not heard from your retailer. He should have contacted you for sending back your module.
After collecting all faulty units in November, the replacement was done with correct units.
The last ones were sent at the beginning of December 2020.
I'm very sorry that you were not aware.
Contact me via PM as needed.
We'll solve the issue.

Ah, I didn't realize they should have reached out to me. I contacted them yesterday though and they were as always very helpful. They have the replacements in stock, set one aside for me, and are sending me over a return label.
Great module you've made here by the way!

Wow! Good on you! Congrats! Yeah, I was playing with mine night and really enjoying its sounds. Still have much to learn about the module, however. Not sure why it's not discussed more here? As I said, if I were a beginner (well, I sort of am), this would be one of my first oscillator-buys!

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
Used to have two A-110s, replaced one of them with a Twin Waves.
I’ve considered replacing the other A-110 and going with Twin Twin Waves, but that octave switch on the A-110 is too damn handy. It’s really the only thing the Twin Waves is lacking for me. Wish I could trade/repurpose the Coarse tuning knob for it...

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I’m sure it’s a handy module (the Cal Trans), but I’ve not got the money or space for it. And as far as I can tell, it’s not a feature where you gain anything (complexity or option-wise) by patching it from a separate module.
And a dual Coarse/Fine tuning set-up that won’t go up or down a full octave isn’t enough use (to me) for alternate tunings, to justify it taking the place of an octave switch.
Just seems like wasted panel real-estate, especially when the module already has other multi-function controls. And I’m assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that octave switching would be even easier to implement in a digital osc than an analog one.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Twin Waves overall, the tuning section just seems like a missed opportunity. And I’m not singling out this osc; octave switching, sadly, seems like a somewhat uncommon feature overall.

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
Tuning range/knob-sensitivity is a design choice.
The Twin Waves is hardly unique in having a fairly constrained-range for Coarse/Fine tuning knobs. The Befaco Even is similar (in that way), and we could easily name ten more oscillators that would rather make it easier for you to have good intonation, as compared to ride the knobs.
A lot of people tune their oscillators, and then zealously attempt to not even nudge the tuning controls.
And it's why modules like Beast's Chalkboard, the T43 from VPME.DE, and Quant Gemi exist (and many others). But do know that the CalTrans offers way more than any of those three, btw.
Meanwhile, some of us want even more oscillators with low-range tuning knobs, or knobs that can lock (like on the Twin Waves).

You like the A-110 (and you make a good case for why), but the TwinWaves isn't trying to be an A-110. I'm glad you have choices, enjoy your variety!pricklyrobot wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:15 pm I’ve considered replacing the other A-110 and going with Twin Twin Waves, but that octave switch on the A-110 is too damn handy.

Huh, guess I need to explore it further. I vaguely remember, shortly after I got it, trying to tune down an octave and not being able to get there. The Twin Waves (original and MK2) have both an 8 octave range on the coarse knob.
Sounds like must’ve been user error/unfamiliarity.
Re: Klavis Twin Waves
Maybe you had some voltage offset on the Voct input at the time? This happens so easily...pricklyrobot wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:13 amHuh, guess I need to explore it further. I think tuning the Twin Waves is a breeze, and while a rotary octave switch like on the Befaco Even VCO is really nice for immediate transposition, it means the "fine tune" knob has to cover that full octave range in between, which makes it fiddly to hit a precise tuning. Twin Waves is better, and the "tuning lock" is my most used button combo, even more so as it locks the two VCOs individually, and not just the whole module. Can't be done any better than this.

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I have the original Klavis Twin Waves. Love the module and what it is capable of, but was curious if there was a way after tuning each oscillator to shift the octave up or down with some button+knob combination… kinda like Plaits?
Re: Klavis Twin Waves
If you only want to switch octaves and not play any melody otherwise, you can use the quantizer, set to octaves. But it won't work as an offset/transposer.kriskeyman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 1:30 am I have the original Klavis Twin Waves. Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I just got my two mkii's which replaced an A-111-4.
I really like the locking feature and will get the CalTrans for oct switching. Allthough i whish it had a vibrato function too. clean, fat tone so far. Only thing i miss from my doepfer vco is the slightly off tuning for lush pad sounds, now that everything is locked..
How about a 70's mode where you have little variations of cents but stay in a fixed range for proper chords and stuff.

No, I’m looking for an offset, to be able to continue playing the melody while switching between -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 octaves for example. Similar to Beast Chalkboard built into the module.sir stony wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 2:46 amIf you only want to switch octaves and not play any melody otherwise, you can use the quantizer, set to octaves. Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I picked up a Twin Waves Mk2 this week and wow, what a fabulous oscillator. Spent an afternoon diving in some cross fm modulation with it and I was surprised how much it felt like playing with my Furthrrrr Generator in a lot of ways - it's like a little complex oscillator in 8hp. I think I'm going to rearrange my 12U rack to be centered around west coast style patching with the Klavis + the Furthrrrr tomorrow.
The interface for controlling two oscillators with the same set of knobs is so thoughtful and getting used to it took no time at all. Really glad I picked this one up and sorely tempted by a Caltrans now.

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
The “tuning/octave problem” with Twin Waves is that you can tune up a bunch, but you can’t really tune down.
For instance, giving it 3V at the V/Oct input, the lowest C you can dial in is 261 Hz. You can go up from there several octaves, but you can’t go further down (at least not far enough to get another C).
Whether or not this is an actual “problem” depends on the rest of your gear. Tunable range of your other Oscs, etc.
I find its range to be high, compared to my other oscs. But I compensate by adding a negative offset from my 3xMIA, as needed.
I still think an octave switch would be more useful than a Coarse tuning knob that mostly just sends everything into dog-irritating territory, but it’s not a deal-breaker;)

Maybe a CalTrans used as a semitone and octave transposer will nicely complement your setup?pricklyrobot wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 10:45 pm ...

It can drive the target VCOs 3 octaves below zero Volt.
The Twin Waves does not require the calibration feature, but with 4 channels on the CalTrans, some of your other VCOs could benefit from it.

Thanks for appreciating the TW.
Best,
Eric

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
If my case wasn’t full already, I’d certainly consider it:)
I definitely do appreciate it, minor quibbles aside. I have the Twin Waves, A-110, and Ataraxic Translatron for my oscillators. They’re all pretty different from each other. And sometimes I wish I could swap a certain feature from one to the other. Thanks for appreciating the TW.
But mostly I appreciate the variety. That’s the beauty of modular.
Well we are, unfortunately, a state that’s responsible for a lot of the shit that comes out of this country;)PS: According to your side notes, it seems that you live in a place at the bottom of the map.![]()
Re: Klavis Twin Waves
I’ve just bought a Twin Mk2 and I really like it. Octave switching would make it perfect for me. Perhaps someone has already suggested this but the coarse knob could become a Oct control when in locked mode. I would literally pay several £ and do a little dance for this feature.

Re: Klavis Twin Waves
This lil beauty has just joined the team on here. And it's a marvelous addition to my humble system. I was scarded of some bugs, because it was modulating itself when first tried, but once I "got" the module's philosophy, I felt super nice : the waves sound superb and the possibilities are nearly endless, well done Eric !
