Power system for Big DIY Case

Post by Dadodetres » Sun Apr 11, 2021 9:25 pm

Hello !
Im researching a power system for a Eurorack Case im building.
This is the planned system:
https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1524758

I never before DIY a case, so I want to make sure I make the right purchase, and also have some questions.

Will this items make the whole Power system I need?
-HammerPWR
-6x Filtered Busboard
-Power Brick 60W

Will this kit power the whole rig?
What is the price?
Is there stock?
What are the differences of having the Power Brick inside or outside the case?
If inside, should I attach the power bricks to the back of the Case?
What are the 3 dimensions of the busboards?
Can I use the HammerPWR to power other Brand´s busboards?
If yes, what technical information do I need to check to see if they are compatible?
Or which Specific Busboards will work from the comercially available?

Thanks!!

Hey Dadodetres,

I checked your system -> 3382 mA +12V | 1648 mA -12V | 165 mA 5V -> HammerPWR -> 12V/5A, -12V/2.5A,
+5V/2A -> Enough power to sustain the whole setup. It will distribute among your bus boards well. Liking the Harmonaig and the Demon Core sitting in there. Killer combo with Morgasmatron, Erbe-Verb, Mimeophon, and Turing Machine, ha! There will also be a little bit of % room which is good as it is better to not use the whole available output performance of your PSU for safety reasons. As you have modules requiring 5V then for the 5V there will be a lot of room as well. (link -> https://www.konstantlab.audio/shop/hamm ... er-supply/) -> 209.00€ without VAT, 250.80€ with EU VAT.

For the whole rig, you will need a total of 50 headers -> 6x Filtered Bus Board 2 that have 19 headers each = 114 headers... you will need more like 3 bus boards in total to cover that all at its current form. If you intend to put in more modules then you will need more headers but as you can see there is enough space in PSU to add something on top but that is solely up to you. (https://www.konstantlab.audio/shop/filt ... tribution/)

For HammerPWR I would recommend getting a 120W power brick (Meanwell GST120A-P1M -> https://www.konstantlab.audio/shop/power-brick-120w/) as that is the intended setup. 60W won't do in the case of HammerPWR.

For the dimensions -> In case you will go with Filtered Bus Boards 2 (revision, I would recommend that one) then it sits at -> DIMENSIONS 39 × 3 cm,
180 g, HEIGHT - 20 mm with inserted connectors.

In my case, I am safely powering my setup from the outside with two Meanwell bricks... That is up to taste but from my experience, it is better to have it outside. Also. All of our PSU solutions can be powered externally from a power bank or something similar in that vein with enough power output/capacity to create a portable solution without the need to carry bricks around or inside the case... but your "monster" case will probably be sitting in the studio. Just a piece of information so you know.

With bus boards, they will be compatible if built to standards, specification but that won't be an issue as there is a lot of great production out there too. I would recommend though going with a complete setup. There are protections/filter design choices built into our bus boards and they work very well in conjunction with our PSU solutions. Together they will ensure that you won't run into many quite possible issues or annoyances.

I hope I have answered everything in detail, if you will need some more assistance let me know! :tu:

;) ;) .

Thank so much! Everything understood and agreed. I keep the research and compare the options. When I have the desicion I´ll make the purchase.
Good day!

Yeah man. I am glad it helped you out. Good day to you as well and good fortune with your case vision! It looks like a very capable ambient hub. Have fun! :-)
