6equencer thread

Post by tubbutec » Fri May 21, 2021 1:24 pm

Questions about 6equencer? Post them here :)
https://tubbutec.de/6equencer/

Tubbutec 6equencer is a TR-606 inspired step sequencer.
It is available in different Eurorack form factors (1U and 3U) and despite being compact has many powerful features.
6equencer is optimized for live performance and allows quick programming and editing of drum patterns.
  • Step based drum sequencer with 8 instruments inspired by the
 TR-606.
  • Compatible with analogue and midi based systems
  • 16 patterns, chainable in song mode, up to 32 patterns in a song
  • Forward, backward, ping-pong and random play directions for
 patterns and songs
  • Mute instruments live
  • Probability control of steps
  • Record steps by tapping or via midi
  • Clear steps while playing
  • Pattern length can be set individually (Last Step)
  • Copy, Paste and Clear patterns in song mode
  • 8 trigger outputs with adjustable trigger length, midi out
  • Analogue clock or midi clock input with adjustable clock divider
  • Multiple 6equencers can be chained to achieve longer
sequences or more instruments.
  • Trigger and record via midi in, doubles as midi interface
  • Trigger midi instruments via midi out
  • Very compact, yet versatile: 3U * 6HP, or 1U * 24HP Intellijel
  • For a detailed list and explanation of features, please refer to the user manual (PDF), which is also included with the 6equencer. There are a lot more features than listed here.

Looks great.

What's the use for the link patchbay exactly? I know you can link multiple 6quencers with or without it - but what happens when you plug a cable into the patch bay?

Thanks

The idea is that you can change the link between 6equencers on the fly:

If you plug in a cable, the 6equencers are disconnected work separately. Of course this can also be achieved by changing settings, but with the patchbay you can do that quickly and while the 6equencers are running. And of course you can also reconnect them using a cable.
If you have more then 2 6equencers you can use the patchbay to quickly change which are connected and in which order.

Patchbays also allow you to bridge larger distances between 6equencers by using an ordinary patch cable.

Guess I will make a short video showing the possibilities soon.

Cool, thanks. I assume this is passive? What's the pinout? Could it also be used for DIY purposes?

Yes, it's passive. The Tubbutec LINK interface only uses ground and one signal wire, so normal mono patch cables can be used for connection. In the patchbay the connection is normalized. Using the link cables supplied with 6equencer and the patchbays it is possible to build a custom eurorack patchbay that can be used for all kinds of signals.

There is an update ( tested and online soon) that introduces a din-sync clock in divider.
So: yes

Sorry. But no.
Different number if steps for each pattern is included, but
A different number of steps per track would be too confusing given the minimalistic UI of 6equencer.
Also this has functional issues: when would you switch to the next pattern in a song?
My best solution: use multiple 6equencers.

Thanks, I just wondered.

The steppy can do this, but that one only has 4 outs. 6equencer has 8 outputs, so I have to make a choice :)

We were able to implement two commonly requested features:

- Swing
- Ratchet / Flam

Found a great implementation for Flam that works with the minimalistic UI we have, and is still very powerful with different modes triggers.
Even does quite a bit more than just the boring typical flam effect

A lot of fun playing with this!
Swing amount can be adjusted in 16 steps.

Needs some more testing to make sure it is stable, but found no bug so far :)

Demo video and firmware update coming soon .....

Yes, we added an analog clock divider in firmware version 1.2 which allows 6equencer to run from DIN-snyc directly.

Also, what's the best way to send this file to the 6equencer as i only have access to a Mac at the moment, not Windows? (I can emulate Windows XP if needs be)

If you can emulate, do that. We are looking at publishing a OSX version, too of course. Apple makes that quite difficult, when you don't own a mac ;)

The windows updater is not a valid windows 32 application is the error message I'm getting. That's the only Windows I have to run at the moment. I have access to Intel and M1 Macs. Is there any open source tool I could run or even run on emulated Linux?? Even iOS or Android would do.
