Ramapo College of New Jersey - low residency hybrid MFA

Professors include Ben Neill, Matthew Ostrowski, Ben Vida, Alex Waterman, Ashlae Blume, Rosana Caban, Zach Layton, Michael Schumacher, Matt Wellins, Erdem Helvacioglu.

Northern New Jersey campus, an hour outside NYC

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Creative Music Technology is designed for students who wish to advance their studies in the recording arts, electronic and computer music, and emerging intermedia art forms. The program requires 48 credits, which can be completed in one academic year and one summer term…or can be spread out over two years.

The MFA focuses on the development of innovative creative practices across the full range of musical disciplines along with rigorous theoretical and technical training. An emphasis is placed on flexibility, and students are encouraged to develop individual approaches to music technology and production that may include:

sound design
interactive systems
music industry

Courses in recording, mixing, digital and analog synthesis, sound design, electronic and interactive music composition, intermedia production, and live electronic music performance are all included in the core requirements. The courses offered during the Fall and Spring semesters will be a mixture of online, hybrid, and in-person classes, with the required Summer component of the program consisting of an intensive residency focused on completing a Thesis project. Master classes and guest artists visits and critique throughout the year.

MFA Curriculum, normal course sequence beginning in Fall semester

All courses are 4 credits and offered in hybrid learning format except MFA Thesis which is 6 credits and ECM Performance which is 2 credits.

Had two years at Ramapo, got to use their 2600 and found a Moog system 15 in the storage closet!! Really nice location and 3 minutes to major Ny/Nj highways!

Good late nite studio times. This sounds like a really cool program, good luck with enrollment!
