Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith — Mosaic of Transformation

Post by lauprellim » Sun May 17, 2020 7:31 pm

Looks like KAS released a new album a few days ago — it was featured on Bandcamp today.

Listened to several tracks just now. In general I find her music quite appealing, but I must say that I am a little disappointed on this album. The string sounds bother me, particularly the odd synthetic vibrato. I am not sure how she got the viola on the last track, but it does not sound like a real viola at all. The cello sound works a lot better, I think.

Wondering what others think of this release!

I'm the opposite. I wasn't a particular fan before but this one really got me, especially the last track.

Well, whether an instrument sounds realistic or not isn’t the point for a lot of people, nor should it be...as a lifelong string player it just sticks out for me. There are a lot of great things about her work, for sure.

I have no clue,but immediately to my ears they sound like sampling...

But i don't care, bought the LP immediately at its introduction.

A couple great tracks on it.

I did not know about this. Thanks!

Who else does stuff this arranged, and deep and frankly this wonderful? I'm a huge fan.

Also a big fan.

@lauprellim
I'm glad you posted this comment. It's certainly understandable how you'd get a different feel from something almost but not quite what you're used to than others who don't have the same point of reference or context. I imagine this is happening for many others too -with other albums- in ways they might not experience as clearly as you have here. It's a possible reason to consider making sure sounds of our work is enough different from traditional instruments that it's not seen as a fail, and rather appreciated as new?
