I have decided….To get the West Pest!

Post by Headphones73 »

So I looked at my budget. I only have 3 Hungry Robot Modular pedals to pick up, the Sequencer, VCF & LFO. My budget is about $250, and to get all 3 would run me $400. I kinda thought “Well, why not just chill on the pedals? And just pick up a new semi modular synth?”. So I figured, The West pest is already a sequencer (with midi/cv), arprigator, and LFO already.

So I’ll purchase it this Friday on Reverb.

Mine's arriving this afternoon from Detroit Modular. I've been thinking about getting Pittsburgh Modular's Dynamics Controller Bat, for 250. Then I kept thinking about the dynamics controller in the West Pest being theirs, and about all the other stuff I'd get with the west pest. I don't think the dynamics controller bat and the one in the west pest are identical (pretty sure there are additional controls on the stand-alone module,) but I'm excited to try the rest of the west pest stuff. I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to rack it.

Just placed the order. So now I just patiently wait. Sigh.

West Pest arrives today, so I have all weekend to enjoy playing with it and seeing what all the hype of West Coast Synthesis is all about. Probably use my Moogerfoogers for delay/ring mod & plenty of modulation possible with my CP251. Can’t wait!

If you rack mount a random patched Mother 32 upside down turns out it makes it west coast.

Hahaha, funny. I guess a Moog Mavis upside down is a East Beast??

That being said, I’m about to turn it on….The West Pest anyway.

Holy Toledo! The WP is a rather strange synth! I've seen plenty of YouTube vids where it seems to make a pluck sound. Kinda like a banjo. Mine doesn't seem to make that, even with patching JUST the WP to it's internal patch bay. But for fun I did patch it to the TD3MO & Crave. It gets strange quick so I can only imagine if I get a East Beast to use with the WP that you can get all sorts of modulation. The manual provided is just 1 page so you almost have to view the PDF manual online to get a sense of why it does what it does. I haven't decided just yet what I want out of it. Strange effects, or just weird ways to mutate patches. I might just have to rack it into a Nifty Bundle. Which might be my next purchase. I hope I'm in the right place for learning west coast synthesis?
