Cirocco / CMS AWOL?

Post by pantalones » Fri Aug 22, 2014 1:50 am

I've emailed Phil twice and left messages on his VM, trying to buy a few modules. No reply on either. Anyone know what's up?

Sounds like everything's running pretty much as it always has in the world of CMS.

This is standard operating procedure in CMS land.

Spend your money elsewhere.

As others have mentioned, standard procedure. What I've heard works is contacting him on a daily basis until he finally responds - give him a month or more. And if you want to buy modules, expect years of being put off like this. Only hearsay, no direct experience myself.

Sometime in 2001 I bought an EMS VCS3 from a guy in Greece and it arrived with a dead noise gen circuit...I looked around for a place that was close to NJ, found Phil's info and gave him a call. He was super nice and told me to bring the unit out to him in PA. At that point it seemed he was living with his mother and had his business/massive synth mancave in his basement. He showed my friends and I all of his gear, a Synthi, a really beautiful Arp 2600, a huge wall of his own CMS stuff etc...He took a good while to repair the VCS3 and I had a month or so of panic while trying to contact him for a status update. In the end, he did a great job on the repair for a very reasonable price. He was living out in the Pennsylvania suburbs at that point, not sure if he's still there? Seemed like a really nice, slightly strange dude...odd that he makes these beautiful, high quality synths, but seems to have ZERO interest in selling to hobbyists. I wonder if he'd even do a minor synth repair for a random kid calling on the phone at this point? The CMS gear sounded amazing from what I can remember...he had some massive arp running and it just sounded huge in that basement...

It took me weeks to finally get ahold of Phil and have him work on my 2600 back in '04 or so. He does amazing work for a reasonable price.

Just keep calling every week or two. I got the feeling that he responds when he's ready to take on some work. Be patient :tu:

seems like all his websites are down, at least im not finding em, use to be you could type in CMS into a search engine and get his websites, not sure it makes much difference, either way hes impossible to track down, and as much as id love one of his multi million dollar systems there are too many other great options out there with email, communication and customer service.

You gotta keep the pressure! Show up at his door step! Cash-in hand ready to buy, don't give up! The force is with you......

I had a 2600 with him years ago.... The most drawn out and frustrating experience ever. Crazy way to do business :despair:
You always want just one more synth

I always liked the one video where he had about $35,000 of Buchla in his garage. But he had a white coat on.

Best of luck. His work is supposed to be the best-ish.

Somehow we ended up with 3 threads about Phil Cirocco and CMS - locking 2 of them, direct all further traffic to this thread -
