The time to buy audio software is NOW

Post by Spectra » Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:35 am

I'm upgrading Komplete from an ancient version that I haven't been able to use for a while. Only $139 for an insane amount of high quality plug ins and soundware.

Ableton is getting upgraded from a basic free version that came with an audio card a long time ago to Live Standard for only $284.

Amazing deal for only $423 together. Or I could buy another Eurorack module or two.... ;)

Out of interest, how ancient was your komplete bundle? I have 8 but I’m not using my Mac as much anymore so might hang on for another year

Guess 25% off was what it took for me to finally upgrade to Live 11 after having loudly complained about Ableton's lack of comping for the better part of a decade.

Cheers to this thread and thanks, OP. :)

Older than 8. Might have been 6. Only useable on my old WinXP machine. $139 to upgrade to Komplete 13 is an incredible value. NI lost my business for a while for good reasons. But I like a lot of their stuff and this is too cheap to pass up.

Whoa. Komplete 13 is a 300GB download. Thankfully, they don't make you download the whole thing at once. There were 99 things to download for K13. Insane deal for $140. I downloaded about 30-40 things that would be useful to me. Probably never use the rest.

I like how some Waves bundles are normally $7500, but are on sale for $199.

I decided to finally grab the SoundToys 5 bundle last night. Installed and I-lok-ed fine, but blimey, it's a large DMG for just effects. They sound great but on my Big Sur Mac the UI graphics look like Windows 98 plug-ins.

I have no idea how they get away with their pricing claims - have never seen their plugins at full price. :despair:

Some of their stuff is great value (Scheps Omni-Channel covers a lot of bases for very little money) but I don't see why they have to pretend it's worth, like, $200 each.

Did anyone have any luck downloading their "LoFi Space" free plugin? I entered my email but never got sent anything. Seems a bit gimmicky but would have liked to have a try.

Waves bundles were fairly expensive 15-20 years ago. I recall paying a lot for the first Gold bundle. I didn't buy anything from Waves this year and didn't try for the free plug in. I still think L2 is the best sounding software limiter that I've heard. Renaissance Channel Strip is still my favorite comp/eq/gate combo. But I'm going to see if I can live without Waves on my new rig.

OT, but speaking of my new rig, I recently bought the cheapest and fastest computer that I've ever purchased. My first DAW was a 1ghz Pentium 3 with barely any RAM for about $2000. My second DAW was a Pentium 4 for about $1500. It worked well for many years, but I could never get too crazy with plug ins.

My new DAW only cost me $400. It's a refurbished Dell. 2.8ghz Quad core intel i7 with 16G RAM and a 1TB blazing fast and silent SSD. Looking forward to seeing what this much power can do.

Scheps Omni-Channel is really amazing. The quality across Waves products really varies. Some of its products are average to say the least and just make things sound worse.
