Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
Has anyone rack mounted/modded one of these ?
Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
A few places are selling these for £150 in the UK now - pretty much cost price.
Wonder if they haven't been selling too well? If so, it's a shame that we might not see some new different models. They look fun.
Caved in and got me a t8 and j6...

Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
These little machines are somewhat limited but they are a hell of a lot of fun. I have all 3 of them. I can knock up a beat on the T-8, whip up a few chords/arpeggios on the J-6 to match, feed some vocal samples/robot voice noise to the E-4, and then just twist knobs with a silly grin on my face. Would I use them as part of a finished track? Eh, hard to say. But for some after work scotch-fueled jams, these wee boxes are just the ticket. Love 'em!
Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
I have some questions for T8 owners :
1. does the MIDI OUT act as a THRU? I mean, pass incomming MIDI information
2. if yes, is there any issue with it? noticeable clock delay, message filtering and stuff like that?
3. do the sync ports work with other syncable devices like pocket operators?

Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
I remember these coming out and I thought "hey, cute" but it's only just dawned on me that, drums aside, the T-8 is an ACB modelled 303 with all the original controls, fx and a sequencer that won't give you an aneurysm, for 140 beer tokens (uk).
It's a no-brainer if you want a little 303 without going Mehringer or paying big bucks for a replica.

I'm SO happy to see this little thing released. It's given me a way to quell the overwhelming GAS of all of today's announcements while not putting myself into financial harm territory.
I love all three of the originals in this series in spite of their many shortcomings and this one seems to revel a bit more in sound customization. So fun!

I woke up and saw this and immediately purchased it and some Thonk knobs. These things are incredibly fun and delightful.

I'm sorry for the slight derail, but I bought some of those in the past and they were fabulous but I can't remember what they're called...these are the "Tall Trimmer Toppers", correct?syzygywell wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:24 am I woke up and saw this and immediately purchased it and some Thonk knobs. Just want to make sure I don't order the wrong part and have a bunch of useless knobs sitting around...again.

If you mean the ones that fit the "normal" trimmers on Euro modules, then yes, they're Tall Trimmer Toppers, according to my Thonk history. I have them on various Mutable and Frap Tools etc. modules, and they fit nicely.fastlanestranger wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 11:05 amI'm sorry for the slight derail, but I bought some of those in the past and they were fabulous but I can't remember what they're called...these are the "Tall Trimmer Toppers", correct?syzygywell wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:24 am I woke up and saw this and immediately purchased it and some Thonk knobs. (At the same time, I also bought "Grey Hard Touch Slider - Sifam Plastic Cap" for my second generation Veils modules too- which are amazing, make them more tactile and less blinding. Just taking the opportunity to remind people that, like peace, nice Veils is an option if they want it.)

Looks like others responded first but yes these are exactly the ones I'm talking about.fastlanestranger wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 11:05 amI'm sorry for the slight derail, but I bought some of those in the past and they were fabulous but I can't remember what they're called...these are the "Tall Trimmer Toppers", correct?syzygywell wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:24 am I woke up and saw this and immediately purchased it and some Thonk knobs. I already got my shipment notice from PC for this li'l thing. Stoked as I'm going to go on a trip and pairing this with its siblings will make for hotel room fun.

Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
I'm really glad to see them continuing to take ACB beyond cloning the original functionality. This is a ridiculous machine for $200. When I picked up a used SH-01A with K-25M for $300, it felt a little like robbery. The sound engine appears to have all that functionality, plus some surprisingly impressive oscillator flexibility (not to mention built in reverb, chorus, and delay, what?) - the sequencer on this is much more capable in a lot of ways, but I do really like the it-records-as-you-play sequencer on the SH-01A. I assume the output is 44khz, like the boutique. I think it's more interesting than the SH-4D. Kinda wish there wasn't as much menu diving. If I didn't have an SH-01A, I'd already have one of these ordered.
So far I've liked this demo best:

Edit:
Back on topic.. this actually sounds really nice. People would have shat themselves for it in the JP8000 era, when everyone was making "virtual analogue" gear.
Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4
This S-1 could handily replace my Roland SH09 + CSQ600 (or my long-since-sold MC-202)

Re: Roland AIRA Compact T-8 J-6 E-4, S1 and bears - oh my!
Well, Thomann have them in stock for a few universal currency units less than the others I've looked at (most of whom are expecting a preorder), so I think I might have to snag my own S-1.
Having looked at the MIDI implementation chart, it looks like a genuinely useful synth rather than just a toy- colour me impressed. A tiny and good-sounding poly for a low price feels something I might enjoy. In my mind, it's something small that I can use to come up with new sounds to auto-sample into renoise and similar.

Hoping for a little 6 or 8 channel mixer in this line. These are so much fun. The menus aren’t the easiest to navigate (particularly for some of the deeper settings) but actually the logic of the interface starts to stick with a bit of effort. I might make some cheat sheets from the manuals for printout. If I motivate and do it I’ll link to them here.
