oh my god

all that extra space and you still have to reach across the whole synth to the top right, and then read the shitty screen, to do most functionality

Why isn't the vector joystick to the left of the keybed? Like, I know the reason, they just plopped the other wavestate into this chassis but c'mon..

Sorry. Maybe this is the type of release manufacturers need to do in 2021 to survive.

The news about the editor got me off the fence. Knew I’d end up with one of these eventually. Korg is absolutely killing it!

Exploring the multitimbral nature of the Korg Wavestate, sequenced by 3 midi tracks on the… Tracker.

i want this and the hydra
don't really need either
the wavestate seems to be more left-field and easier to get weird with?

Eh... I don't know, the Hydra with its mutator setup is pretty easy to get weird quickly.

I've been eyeing these two also. Based on what I have seen and heard in the various demos and gleaned from the manuals, it seems to me that the Wavestate is perhaps better suited to complex rhythmic layered patterns/soundscapes, while the Hydrsynth may be better suited to more keyboard-based patches, although still capable of some very complex evolving timbres. I'd be interested to hear what others think about how these two synths compare and their relative strengths and weaknesses.

new Wavestate SE
they should use the extra panel space to develop the UI instead of leave this large blanks

wavestate-SE_slant.png

All of the controls should have been moved all the way to the left, with the joystick right around where the Korg logo is, above the mod/pitch wheels.

And the teeny tiny display should have been replaced by a MUCH larger display, like 10" diag, located to the right of all the controls, front and center.

Agreed. I love my Wavestate so far. However, really don't like having my arm on the keys while editing. Would love a large screen for these aging eyes. These things make me wish for the editor ... though it'd be great not to have to use one. Ah well, I'm still pretty in like with it.

Nothing official, but I believe Dan Philips form Korg said the tentative price was US$1599, but I’m not finding the reference at the moment.

I've been using the unofficial editor by Erwin Coumans and it makes editing a lot faster on the wave-sequence side.

Check out this video with a link to download for Windows or Mac in the description.

JMO, but I love the original as a compact inexpensive synth with amazing sounds. If they made a high end version with big display, great keyboard, everything people ask for, etc, that would be one thing. But I don’t think the SE version is worth anywhere near 2X the original.

Just got one of these. Demo model from guitar center (and so with a nice discount and bonus grodyness from thousands of strangers hands caressing it). Had to open it up to fix the little screen that covers the joystick opening. This thing really is just a breakout of a vst - there's hardly anything in there except a big chip and the hardware needed to get the controls in and out of it.

That said, it really sounds fantastic. Quite a bit to get my head around to program it, but I'm working on it. Lots of potential here.
