I had a decent play with one yesterday at Five G, Tokyo. This thing is beautiful. Simply quality - sound, build, ease of use. Of all the amazing things in that place ,this might have been at the top of my wish list. OK, maybe behind original RA Moog Model 15 but seems less likely to be fickle for years to come.
Got my Vermona 14 yesterday. It's VERY nice. The nicest mono i've ever played (I've played everything). There's another thread of late discussing the best workhorse synths, telecaster of synths. The 14 fits the bill all the way.
I wondered if it would compare with the Model D. Which I'm sure many would agree is the Aleph of monosynths. It does, doesn't do the same things but ranks right up there. Instead of 3 Oscs the 14 has 2 with a subosc each (one sine and the other square) so I can get my favorite SH101 patches (Sawtooth with a taste of square sub osc and noise, cutoff halfway and a smidge of res). Routing of the aftertouch/modwheel to vibrato and cutoff are essential to my playing and the 14 does this perfectly. Subtle FM of cutoff and Osc 2 is very nice. and the seq/arp is out of this world.
In addition Vermona intends for the 14 to be used as a master keyboard and have given the 14 CV and Gate outs with both 1/4 and 1/8.
I kind of wish the envelopes had a loop setting but the ability to use the seq+vcaOn+lfo+FM=

I don't really get the price of it. I own other Vermona stuff, I know its high quality, but a lot of their base products are priced a bit too high--I think my Dominion 1 beats it in most respects and is much cheaper.unexpectedbowtie wrote:I tried one of these at Schneider's in Berlin and it was glorious. Too expensive for my blood at the moment, but it's a beauty.

Probably agreed there. I was pretty surprised when I googled it later and discovered the price. It costs more than my OB6.chaosick wrote:I don't really get the price of it. Absolutely! Reminds you how expensive synths used to be before mass-production too.unexpectedbowtie wrote:It can still be a surpriseAnnwn wrote:This has been discussed already.

Mine just came in last week, so haven't had time to record anything. But it is truly gorgeous sounding (and looking, imo). As they rightly make a big deal about, ergonomics are top notch. Favorite mono synth ever (other than my modular, of course).
Working daily to improve my knowledge to gear ratio.

I'm #62, so they were about 1/4 way through when I got mine Sept 6, 2017.

I agree with you. We shouldn't undervalue production and qa labor.Christopher Winkels wrote:Moog seems to do just fine selling a handbuilt monophonic synth for $3500. A Vermona for $1000 less using similar production methods, in small volumes, at first-world labour rates doesn't strike me as excessive.
