I liked the flexibility of having three potential CV sources, rather than two. The CV sources and switches don’t control the slew limiters, which have no CV control - they’re for addressing, just like the Binary Block and DDSR.

Sorry, I think I misunderstood this:

I also don't understand how the switch relates to the sluggish (slewed control) VCAs.

Imagine you’re feeding an audio signal into the input. With that potentiometer at one extreme, the VCA in that row opens and closes immediately when the row is the active stage. When you change the rate, you get a fade in or out, and it’s possible to have audio coming out of more than one output (thanks to the modulated VCAs).

To make it behave like a 1:4 switch, you just set each slew limiter’s rate to its fastest value. Make sense?

I understand the slewing with the VCAs. Wasn't sure what the switch was doing but I think I get it now, the four to one switch turns on one of the four slew-VCA channels. That could be fun.

The Binary Block addresses 8 knobs. Two to the third is eight so three gates needed to address eight channels. For addressing one of four, only two gates are needed (like the old 2 Bit Bin Mux).

Right, but you can see that I'm associating two values with each row (000:100, eg) - this is solely because I want the fun and flexibility of having three CV sources (or trigger sources, or whatnot). Like one could be an AD envelope, one could be a sequencer's output, the third could be a pulse train.

Thanks, that explains a lot. I'd like to see the slew/VCA part of it as a separate 1u module.

We all want slew limiters. 🤣🤣🤣

Don’t remember if I’ve posted here or not, but a Clock VCO would be great - I passed on the Chirper because it was too big for what it was, but a 2FW module would be great. Ya, the noise / random / S&H stuff that is probably on it’s way. More FX - a phaser and return of the spring reverb! We live in hope. ;P

Well I guess it’s a case of « different strokes for different folks»? I’ve never found the Chirper to be to big. Perfect size for extensive wiggling etc. :sb:
But of course if your use was as a clock VCO, well then I totaly agree ;)

I’m trying to move away from stand-alone gear as much as possible abs concentrate on modular or at least rack mountable. I have a DRM1x and 2 in my frames, but the Chirper is largely redundant for me.

Besides, I have a first class drone machine that isn’t dissimilar to the Chirper. A Drone Commander 2e and expander - the Eurorack edition. Two oscillators and filter, but with an additional filter, as well as a VCA and preamp. I hate to use the word beast, but it really is a beast.

Hoping there’s both a stand-alone red version and a smaller blue version of the dual phaser!

Octave Bank... I'm imaging something kind of like the BBV, but with 4 outputs that are stepped at 1V intervals. So for example if you have a chord or sequence going on 4 VCOs, you could have the voices octave-jump and create inversions that way. It could be done with multiple BBV or Penrose but... seems like it would be cool to have as a dedicated function with multiple outs.

I sold my only
Phaser a month or so ago to get some Bug gear.
Hoping that spot is filled with a bug phaser sooner or later.... ;) :tu: :help:

Shelved NoiseCrusher for now due to annoying very small but significant issue.
Just putting in proto NSH (Noise & 2 x S/H) & hopefully nearing-final 2FW Phaser designs..
Everything (mainly me!) is slow.

Is that a single or dual fw module? What are the two S/H? DO they clock at different rates or are they different flavours somehow? Smooth/stepped etc?

Just going for simple S&Hs though have testing options for different caps on the back (for different rates - need to see if necessary).
Coupled in with a two output noise source - regular white noise & then a pot controlled filtered 'tilt' eq.

As always don't get to holding your breath just yet ;)

Not familiar with the old NoiseCrusher... what's the difference between that vs. the new S+H w/ Noise source? Built-in clock... something else?

Old NoiseCrush was a nice little saw-vco combined with white noise & S&H.
I went through a few new revisions very similar.
New one (to test, ie not confirmed) is 2 x S/H and a noise source - so no vco (internal clock source) but there's plenty of clock sources about, aren't there!

Already have a plan for where I’d put the Phaser!

I know it's probably more complex than just "please add this to this"... But consider for your new noise module some functionality of Buchla Source of Uncertainty (some schematics here I guess: https://electro-music.com/forum/topic-3 ... torder=asc ) or Make Noise Wogglebug ( https://www.makenoisemusic.com/modules/ ... -wogglebug ).

I guess they're a little bit different, but both provide nice uniqueness with "musical" usage of random.

"Everything is slow" is good, really like this approach opposite to "new module each month" : )

Yeah, that feels like a whole other ball park - something I'd, in theory, like to investigate, but you know I've already got a good few designs 'on the boil' awaiting some more focus ;)

The current design seems like a winner for the system should it pass your rigorous testing. We have clocks in various places as you say, we can slew one of the s/h with one side of a dual filter, we don't have any dedicated noise sources. 2 s/h is 1fw is very nice bang for buck too!
