Fake likes
So these are my tracks that only got fake likes from what I assume are promotion scams.
If I squint the fake likes are almost like actual likes. Like, I feel they're the likes like no other and I'd like to like them.
Any ideas about how to get more fake likes?

Re: Fake likes
The music is pretty far out, but I do kind of like it.
I especially like how confidently restless the first track feels, although the mix seems pretty random (confidently random?).
The second one has something that could be live drumming (?), but it's getting almost completely ducked/cancelled in the mix by louder, distorted noises. At the end the sound opens up a bit, but by then the track is almost over. It would be interesting to hear the same track with a clear drum mix up front and the distorted synth growls drawn back to act as embellishments.
Thank you for sharing♥

Nah, I'm just bad at mixing and there might have been some lfo's to cheaply liven things up.Samatha Dubs wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 10:19 am I especially like how confidently restless the first track feels, although the mix seems pretty random (confidently random?).
The restless part is interesting, I perceive it as rather relaxed.
Nah, it's inanimate object drumming, I think Crucible sounds amazing. That and a bit of modulation. I think I was kinda unsure, and erred on the side of caution with drums, and thought of the screechy synth as the main dish as it's kinda jazz inspired - drums at the back, horns at the front.Samatha Dubs wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 10:19 am The second one has something that could be live drumming (?), but it's getting almost completely ducked/cancelled in the mix by louder, distorted noises. It's been unpatched long time ago and I record in stereo. As usual the track is way less that it could have been, but I'm going back to that sort of thing sooner or later.
Thank you for any response, I expected polite silence.

Re: Fake likes
i think Rahsaan Roland Kirk would have been proud of the horn in the first track. i like how the phrasing develops over time.
the 2nd one was reminded me of bugs. lol. i think thats' Samatha's restlessness.
good tracks.

It's a great honor to make the spirit of three-horned man proud.
I think you mixed up the tracks.

nope. that's the cool thing about music - it's entirely subjective. :0) good stuff!

Re: Fake likes
enjoyed the melody loop from the first track....deffo has a nice "far-out" trip hop vibe!
I can't think what track Ive recently listened to (last few weeks) has a similar melody atmosphere, will try and repost it here for elaboration when I found it.

Ok so if you get the early melody line from Home - Tides......then pitch it down dischordantly speaking it reminds me of this effect

Re: Fake likes
Amusingly, often the fake likes come with a pitch for a fake liking service- when they don't, I assume that something went wrong. Incidentally, Eax's weird distort-bees sound repeating all the way through has a lovely timbre, I derived pleasure from it and fully expect (more) brain parasites as a result.

I'm too bloodyminded to do so. I'm often happier if just one person "gets it". I suspect that a side-effect of making things I'm curious about or want to hear involves confusing and alienating many people anyway

Re: Fake likes
I really enjoyed the arrangement of both tracks. The second one reminded me of the crazy scene at the end of Apocalypse Now when he kills Kurtz. It has a chaotic wildness to it.
BTW - I also love Crucible. One of the best modules out there.

Re: Fake likes
The fake likes used to bug me, getting more fake than real ones was kinda sad, a perverse participation trophy. I think I might be dealing with it by turning it into a joke. I also thought that a bit of self-deprecating humor might make self promotion feel less shameless.Kattefjaes wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 1:54 pm I'm too bloodyminded to do so. Good to hear that, that part was a real struggle at the time. It still is but way less so.

No reason to be ashamed, sharing your music here! I really enjoy listening to peoples' weirdly varied tracks. When I'm bored, it's great to be able to rock up to muffs, see what people have posted. If no-one shared, it would be a pretty bloodless place.Domin wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 2:14 pm The fake likes used to bug me, getting more fake than real ones was kinda sad, a perverse participation trophy. Re: Fake likes
The problem is, soundcloud punishes you for liking things with how shitty it is. If you like a track, it seems to 100% want to autoplay right after your own track that you're playing back for reasons. The frequency of the unsolicited listening opportunities is eventually so high that you can't bear the track that you liked any more. It seems not to matter what you change in the preferences, the next time you log in, it does it again.
So now I'm kinda nervous about liking anything. Worse, once you have, you'd feel awkward un-liking it again, especially if it's by someone you know.

Re: Fake likes
I happens to me sometimes, but usually it just plays next track of mine.
Yeah, the thing is the like conflates "please accept this token of appreciation", "I want to hear it ten more times in very near future", "bookmarked for further reference".
I guess a comment might be a good way of handling that. Even a short remark about some aspect is way more human than a like. Now I think I should do it more.

I gave you some real likes. I'm ok with fake likes - fake listens, even better!
I do find it odd though when my noise tracks get reposted by hot-girl-avatar accounts.

Re: Fake likes
i use the web site and play from the 'profile' page; it goes to the next thing in my profile list. if i play from 'tracks' it'll self select something, play lists help. i use it to park stuff i'm working on so I can get it anywhere with safari.
i'm worried less about likes than about folks getting to the middle. most of mine are 'late starters' lol.
what I'm really interested in is why do I get "#World #Tango" so often. I feel like I've tripped off the last 'then' in a massive 'if/then' statement, or I've hit the 'default' in a case statement of literally endless of electro-genres gone mad.

Breaking, I put up two minutes of noisy feedback and distortion and seem to be attracting the fake likes- heady stuff
I've touted it elsewhere, but click through and behold the majesty and wonder of the spammers:

Thank you, the reaction's been great. For a long time seeing all the posts with zero responses have been keeping me from posting here. Now I think I can handle the zeros.
I also like that the thread seems to be mostly cats talking with a blurry tree.

Re: Fake likes
The whole thread has been an unexpected delight. Keep posting what you made, too. I know that personally, I can't always find something to say for whatever reason, but it's always a huge joy to be able to sit down with a cup of coffee and listen to a selection of other peoples' creations, however conventional or bizarre.
