Buchla, Serge, Studio.h, Northern Light Modular, Keen Assoc., 1979, Vedic Scapes, etc. Banana systems
Be sure to look into MANUFACTURER SUB-FORA as well..

Fess up, who is behind this XENOMORPH?

Post by Reese P. Dubin »

http://xenomorph.technology/

This is the craziest yet clone, a direct and exact copy of the Synton Fenix 2. The just changed the name and added a power switch to the front.
I did almost dismantle mine before selling it to try and make a copy of VCO1, but decided against it. Definitely would not have taken it to this extreme. 2020 is gonna be some year on every level.

Portland, OR. Who could it be? Is that where TTown was from?

i. just. dont. know

I am an ex-longterm resident and can't think who this could be but then again, Portland has changed lots in the past few years.

I am not going to lie, I miss my Fenix II and will give this a go.

to be that close, I sure hope it has Bert's blessing.
Horrible place for the power switch. So you accidentally turn it off plugging in a cable.

The style of the photography..
The banana / Sifam knob mix...
The wood texture, the metal work, the screws.
Very complex to pull off..
Portland as roots...
Xenomorph...Aka Alien...a movie buff..
...kinda obvious who 8-)

Oh wait they fudged the patchbay a little and moved a few things.
Totally different thing then...

My first guess was this was the work of T Town but he was a total hack and could never do this. But I dont follow closely enough anymore to know who is a movie buff. I guess I would rather see an actual enthusiast benefit from a full on copy like this than Uli's megacorp.

If its available without the panel I might actually do one, so i can do a more Serge centric layout (yes lots and LOTS of wires). I bought a real one new so I wouldnt feel TOO bad.

i hope they drill the panel for classic bananas instead of the 5 part horror to solder jacks the original used. yes one sentence later I am thinking about using the panel. :bang:

Very interesting and not at all surprising.
Well at the very least he does good work.
'Should' be cheaper than the 200r as the R&D is near nothing, no work arounds, the rarest parts are 3280 and 4006.

Be interesting to see how this plays out.

I have send him a suggestion a while ago to clone the overpriced Cwejman S1 or doing a polyphonic Synton Syrinx clone, looks like he merged both ideas and came with an excellent choice.

OT, sorry - but in response the cwejman synth ain't any more expensive than the black corp stuff... Doubt a clone by them would be cheaper

I think there is a biiig difference between cloning for cheap and bringing back unobtanium.
And in that field Roman is the grand wizard and we all benefit from it.
But maybe that's just me being practical.
Collectors might frown upon

The main difference: the project is only 7 years old, and parts of it are reused for the fenix IV

Thought it was a Roman or related to Black Corp. He was lookin for someone to stand up a quick wordpress just days before this page appeared.

Would think the DNS records say all that needs saying.

Looks like it’s not a bloke in a shed here in the UK. That only means it’s going to be expensive to ship the panel........

I honestly dont know the secret family tree but isnt Malekko sort of Roman's partner in the US? Wasn't Sputnik done thru Darkplace?

Most importantly is Darkplace a direct ref to Garth Marenghi?? I hope so!!!

So much speculation!

PPPlease tell me they will do the original justice and put quality through hole for the components. Most Fenix owners I have spoken with have had to have it fixed here and there and this would make it much easier.

Also, lets hope its around the original price. I just saw one sell for $10,000 on reverb! :woah:

I would say lets hope its significantly lower than original price. No way will i spend $4000 on PCBs and parts, Should come in closer to $2000 or less.

7 PCBs including PSU that required no major R&D beyond close examination + panel. I think $1200 or so is fair.

Wow. I love the Fenix 2/3 combo, it looks like a perfect instrument to me. I think 3 sequencers is the sweet spot.
