btw... small error in the MOTM builders guide/BOM

"Audio Output" connectors are detailed as MTA156 in column 3 but MTA100 in column 7. its clear anyway just thought id mention.
Thanks for reporting Ben, I'll include this in the next BOM update.

FYI, due to a couple of questions: DIY kits in MU and MOTM are still available

Swapped the LED buttons to be correct, and reflowed the CPU and all seems to be working now...

:goo: :goo: :sb:

Looking forward to vastly under using this module because I have forgotten all the settings... like all MI stuff.

But it was a nice build with the only issues user error....

all working and having fun this weekend with Chords setting through Oakley phaser.

noticed that the Corsynth C105 lo-fi next to it is bleeding into the Osc pitch.

Could this be my badly managed audio wiring or are there any other parts to check for insulation etc?

will do some tests to see if its just proximity but not worried as longer term the corsynth module will not sit next to it.

Hello Brian,
I just a question regarding the audio wiring connection.
First off you specify a COAX wire, is this to cut down on noise in the audio channel?
Yes.
With that though, it appears that maybe you have the core wire going to one pin and the shield going to an adjacent pin. Is this correct? And does it matter what pin the core connects to as opposed to the shield (obviously this is for the 2 sets of the 2 wires).
Maybe you could send me a better photo or a sketch.
Shields are on the inside, core wire on the outsides.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Martin

I have a few occasional issues with mine, which I have now moved to a better case to rule out Power supply issues.

when moving to a new case, I get the dreaded double LED, where apart from the first setting, I get a static AND flashing LED, which follows down the modelling selection. and I dont think I can get the bottom model. weird, but it was working great previously, so might just be something not quite right.

my other issue is an occasional freakout on the audio which can be caused by rubbing the LEDs when the module is powered.

it is occasional and sometimes Its not there at all, despite the rubbing, so I guess its a weird grounding issue.

I am going to look at this over the weekend and reflow what i can, but just putting it out there incase anyone had similar.

Hi!

If you have the double LED issue you'll need to to the calibration procedure:
https://mutable-instruments.net/modules/plaits/manual/ (almost at the end of the page)
It's simply done by
  • pressing both buttons
  • send 1V (or C2 note)
  • press any button
  • send 3V (or C4 note)
  • press any button
Best regards,
Martin

Thanks Martin,

I have to dummy up a 1V reference using a Q960 and a multimeter, but I'll try tonight... there was no audio interference last night when I was playing so likely a loose something that can be easily fixed...

btw. out of all the Plaits versions I have seen in both Eurorack and 5U, ( and buchla), this is by far the nicest looking. a real pleasure to have in my rack.

Hey there,

there's a new MU version v3b to further simplify the DIY experience.

Details will follow, but for now:
  • 2 separate PCBs (control board and main board)
  • Pin header / Pin sockets eliminate the need for cables and crimping
  • Push Button illumination can now be configured via Jumper (on/off)
  • Improved silkscreen gives hints about LED orientation etc
PM me in case of interest.

I've noticed this one can be quite susceptible to interference from other oscillators, noticeable from LFOs

I suspect its my not great power solution feeding back into one of the rails, but any quick and easy ways to limit interference with this build?

Lovely module, especially design and the above will sort out the only issues I had with the build.

Never heard this experience from other users.

Why not simply build a proper Oakley PSU?
http://www.oakleysound.com/psu2.htm

Tony even offers MU distribution boards now if that's an issue.

His projects are easy to build and well documented.
