Pittsburgh Modular M3?

Post by infradead » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:15 pm

So i was looking on the pittsburgh modular site and found this
The 2 Multiple modules are being replaced with the M3. The M3 is an evolved version of the multiple. It still functions as a splitter for audio and cv signals but also functions as a mixer and buffer. The M3 opens the door to extremely complex modulation and signal routing. It is the small module that makes a big difference.
Oh more handy utility stuff. Me likes!

The beauty of the M3 is in its simplicity. 3 sections. One is a passive mult and the other two are 2 channel unity mixers with 2 outputs so they can act as a mixer, buffer, mult, or mixer and mult. 4hp, $59. In production now and shipping 7/1.

I have been too busy to write the copy and take the necessary pictures of the M3 and a few other modules to properly announce them but I will get to it soon.

probally this
The original monophonic midi module is being replaced with a 10 octave multimode midi module (Midi2) capable of monophonic, duophonic, or dual monophonic modes. The Foundation is essentially 2 monophonic voices and having a Midi to CV module that can squeeze the most flexibility out of those two voices makes a big difference. With the Midi2, the Foundation can be patched up as a dual oscillator monophonic monster for leads and basses or as a single oscillator duophonic synth for creamy pads. Using the dual monophonic mode, the Foundation can be patched up as 2 independent monophonic synths. A bass and lead at the same time or any other combination of two sounds independently controlled via Midi for multitimbral analog goodness.

The mult looks cool although I will probably be first in line for the new MIDI module. Duophony is exactly what I'm looking for. I was eyeing the Kilpatrick MIDI interface for this reason....

Will the tracking be approximately the same as the existing module, in terms of resolution?

I'll have information on the Midi2 available in a few weeks. I'd rather post the Midi2 specs, feature set, and images all at once.

Midi2 clock/reset out? :hmm:

M3 does look handy. So the bottom 2 ARE buffered then?

Is the MIX 1 / MIX2 channel of this basically the same as the middle section of the MI 'Links' Module?

I was thinking of buying a 2nd links to have another 2in / 2 out unity mixer, and seems like the M3 might save me 4 hp!

Re: Pittsburgh Modular M3?

i recently used the old pittsburgh modular utility "m3" for the following:
"mix1": two audio in to one audio out
"mix2": one audio in to two audio out

the combined audio-signal from "mix1" was bleeding quite heavily into "mix2".

this should be working without bleed/both mix-sections should work with audio, right?

alternatively, would mutable instruments "links" be better up for this task?

thanks
