Do buying headphones and speakers count? Got too much gear and a crappy set of headphones. Figure it's time to hear those sounds properly.
You can make your own rules, but to me it's ok to replace something that's broken or lost, or in your case replace a crappy utility with a functional one.

I didn't realize when I hopped into this thread a couple weeks ago that it was in the '1U & 3U Eurorack Modules' forum. Oops. I'm an outsider, folks. I own zero Eurorack stuff. I've got a bi-timbral synth, a drum machine, sampler, some FX, and a couple MIDI controllers. Anyway...
The SP-404mkii that I picked up in December has seen zero use and I've started to imagine trading it for something else. I'm browsing the typical trade-friendly websites and the dopamine reward is pulsing through my veins. There's an unspoken, "The next thing will SURELY be what I need to accomplish whatever it is I'm doing," but all I'd be doing is letting go of something extremely useful and losing money.
Well... Instead of doing that, I'm going to buckle down, gather up some learnin' resources and if nothing happens sooner, in about a month I'll have 5 days of uninterrupted interaction with this thing while I'm, yes, this is from left field, stuck at a medical research facility getting paid to dose LSD minus the hallucinogenic component for migraine relief research. Dropping beats. Dropping acid. The actual drug portion lasts about 3 hours, so I'll have LOTS of spare time since I'm there 5 days. Yay science!
You don't have to be in Eurorack to join the discord. Most are, but not all.
On another note, I think there would be tremendous enjoyment from a reporting of your experiences with the medical research - and a personal interest from my side as a migraine sufferer.

It's all pretty pointless if you can't hear it
Yes, you can make your own pledge on the Discord. Plus you get a fresh start when you join.
I haven’t joined the discord thing (yet?) although so far in 2023 I haven’t bought any synth stuff. To be honest I haven’t been tempted much either. Interestingly a recent newsletter from a manufacturer referenced this thread.
FS - Xaoc Batumi+Poti breakout (new in box), Animodule Logicogic/Quad Comparator (new in box), Noise Engineering Cursus Iteritas (mint), Joranalogue Mix 3 (mint) viewtopic.php?t=271469
I absolutely love and appreciate this idea. The problem is I just got two new jobs… Don’t ask. And this of course means that I’ll be able to get some of that Cwejman that I really wanted. But after that I’m probably done. So maybe I can start the challenge after that? I wholeheartedly believe that fully exploring my modules helps me create better music and I always create music along the way of exploration as long as I hit the record button.

Seriously? I'd be interested in knowing more about that.

In my no gear pledge I stated an exception for the Cwejman modules where I'm on the wait list. You can start the challenge now. Most of us have some sort of exception in our pledges.

Alright then so long as we are reasonable people about it.

I started off so well, then I watched demos of the Strymon Starlab...
I was taken with the demos as well, but I could never get it do what I wanted. Something we’ve talked about on the Discord is not watching demos of gear we don’t have.
Sometimes the best way to stop a complete sell off is to take a break and evaluate what you are really trying to accomplish. If you can crack that code in eurorack, then you may actually realize that sell off is a rash decision. What I have witnessed is a certain level of exhaustion that typically leads to embarrassment and subsequent quitting the whole thing. So even a few months off to reflect on what modular means to your music is healthy. A year is arbitrary and helps in goal setting. By all means, support those companies struggling if you have the means and it’s not detrimental to your own situation. Most of us do that for sure.

For sure. Watching demos of gear I have has been great (and trying my best to not watch too much on stuff I dont have). It kind of feels like I'm watching a new module demo when I unlock some technique on a module that I already own and you get that surge of excitement. And I don't even have to order it and wait for it to come to me. It's already in my rack. I've been watching a ton of awesome demos that Make Noise put out on Maths over the years and its really opening it up (even more) in my mind. Things are starting to click. I have a bunch of modules that I can improve upon with regards to utilizing their full potential.

Absolutely. I’ve been cultivating a YT playlist of my favorite videos of gear that I own, with priority to the videos that inspired me to buy them.
Just checking in to let people know it’s never too late to join the Discord group. It’s really been helpful to me in remembering why I love modular and electronic music, but to also be mindful of the pitfalls.

Hi! so one month in! Still going strong but felt bit weak a few times, specially with the new pittsburg synth.
Working on my diy back lock is helping a lot.
I finished my Re808 by dinsync and nearly done with the syncussion from Michigan synth works.
Stay strong and see you soon!
Nice work! The backlog of DIY modular is real. hehe
My DIY backlog is also pretty bad. And it didn’t get any better this month as I gained two Feedback kits (including an SMD one ), and did no soldering at all for the last month or so.
Joining the Discord group has been great though. I may have still made a few purchases, but I did focus on making more music, and my perspective on buying gear has definitely started to change. I’m now more mindful and starting to see what I have, instead of what I’m missing.

I was wondering if I could use module purchase abstinence from a previous year as credit toward a module in 2023?
