Joranalogue Filter 8:

In self oscillation you get 8-phase sine waves, separated by 45°
Tracks extremely well
Easy to tune thanks to coarse and finetune knobs
Lin and Expo FM
Resonance is CV-able
With feedback patching, you can shape it to a saw wave or other waveshapes

Three Sisters has great pings and FM. Blades does cool PM, FM, and wave shaping.

Oh PM! Is that just audio rate modulating filter mode while self oscillating? I have not tried that!
Exactly, modulating filter mode at audio rates will create phase modulation. I recommend using a VCA or attenuator in between so you have control over the depth.

Ripples V2 for a really nice and clean sine oscillator. Tracks v/oct perfectly. Also makes a wonderful kick. For some reason the FM input on Ripples is my favorite of all my filters. It just sounds really clean and tonal when I rip it. Never tried the v1 but I'm sure it's similar.

Zlob SVF for nasty. I have it on "extreme resonance" setting so at full reso it's more like a "mesa" wave than a sine. Very distorted and very cool. Lots of harmonics. Tracks v/oct well enough but it's a little rough. Also makes a great (albeit way more distorted) kick.

QPAS is the ping king. In mono you get four-tone chord pings if calibrated. It makes a wonderful percussion. You can make QPAS self-oscillate by feedback patching but I think pinging results in much cooler sounds.

Edit: here is some pinging I did with QPAS. It's only QPAS into Beads, which is adding a glitchy upwards octave shift that is layered on top, and reverb. The bitcrushiness is from modulating QPAS. I am convinced there is a ghost inside QPAS that makes it sound like that haha

It's been mentioned a lot already but yeah I would say Stereo Dipole is pretty naturally-aspirated for this.

This is a very good suggestion. Can be FMd to some degree too but the magic is in the other controls.

Otherwise, I've had great success with both Toppobrillo Multifilter 1 and 2 (the PM in 2 is wonderful), Three Sisters, and Ikarie. Filter 8 was great when I had it, too.

Another vote for Filter 8. I use it often as a voice. I also love SSF Dipole for this. I look forward to trying more filters in the future.
