make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
Hi, first post!
I have Boog 960 sequencer and since seeing steevio's youture with doepfer A-155 going poin-pong i am jealous.
Im looking for a way to make the 960 do the same.. reverse, pingpong.. random. There are the inputs on each step i can utilise, to sontrol the stepping
Seems there is module existing for 5u called Club Of The Knobs C961S:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St-Z7hZcqmY
I thought to use somethign like https://www.modulargrid.net/e/ladik-d-2 ... -generator
but i guess that will trigger multiple triggers at once, which will probably be bad for the sequencer.
Im kind of thinking all i need is a way to split a LFO into 8 gates.. is there something which can do that for me?
thanks!

seems like something like might do it..
https://www.modulargrid.net/e/doepfer-a-152
It seems to be a "voltage addressed switch", i wonder if there is any simpler module which does this, another way or a simple DIY method

Another one to consider is the SSL V-Gates? I think it's discontinued in eurorack format so it may be hard to find one?

Also something like the Erica Synths Octasource (or any other LFO that has 8 outputs phase shifted by 45 degrees) "might" sort of work but I'm not so sure that it would be possible to create an auto-pingpong?

Antumbra Path. 8 way sequential switch - with a pendulum mode. Or it can be CV controlled like the A-152.
I'm not buying a maths though, not my idea of fun...
Re: make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
thanks for the suggestions! Went with the path, gonna be my first smd build.

Re: make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
Is there a functional equivalent of PATH for achieving what the OP wanted in an already assembled module? (I also own a 960.) Didn't find any builds on Etsy, Reverb, etc. Thanks!flashheart wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 6:30 pm Antumbra Path. 8 way sequential switch - with a pendulum mode. sorry im wrong you need seq switch
Re: make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
I was wondering if there was any way to use an Erica Sequential Switch V2 like the C961S in JLR's video.

Re: make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
So it's sorta working...
I have an Erica Synths Sequential Switch V2 hooked up to a B960. I'm sending gate signals from the expander of my Pam's New Workout into the Clk In and the In/Out jacks of the SSv2. I've got in/outs 1-8 patched into the ins of the B960 steps 1-8.
When sending gates from PNW, the switch steps through the stages according to the playback mode of the SSv2--like in JLR's CoTK C961s video. Which is what I want, however, Stage 1 of the B960 remains active as the other steps trigger (changing the knob of stage 1 affects the pitch of active steps) and there is some over hang-when it moves to a new stage the prior stage remains active until the stage advances further.
So, not sure what is going wrong.

The Erica Synths Sequential Switch allows you to mute or skip each of the eight steps, and has 8 sequential step modes through the 8 jacks: fwd, rev, pingpong, rnd, 8pingpong, 3fwd/1rev, 2fwd/1rev, and 2 step.

Good job figuring it out!

Re: make 960 sequencer go ping-pong
Thanks. There's a CoTK C961s up on reverb right now and I was tempted-especially after rewatching your video, but then I'd feel obligated to get a full size 5u 960 (Not a bad thing.)
But then my GRP R24 would remind me that it can do this on all three rows.
The Erica sequential switch v2 meanwhile has pretty much the same functionality as the c961s but is about half the price--and can do other tricks as it can pass other signals in either direction.
Now if only the B960 came with higher quality pots. I may need follow SkyWriter's advice and ship my units off to my friend with his Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun to swap them out.

FWIW I noticed today that the Synthetic Sound Labs V-Gates has been rereleased/updated to version 2 with some improvements. I think it was sold out for several years?

One of the things that seems essential to the 960 experience is that it should be able to skip steps like a fancy little boy day dreaming about a fig and ladyfinger McFlurry.
The single vs quick double press per-step muting/skip on the erica turns out to work really well.
