New system!

Post by minimal_modular » Wed Jul 21, 2021 12:32 pm

Caved to my desires and got a little modular system.

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1636514

Should be a nice counterpoint to the thick analog washes I make with my No Coast/Strega drone combo.

The modules will be delivered early next week, and a custom 44hp case, with power module mounted in the back or side, is being made to house this specific combination - it will be a nice, discreet instrument.

So it will be a while until I get to play with it - which gives me time to read manuals and watch demo/instructional videos!

I like this idea. It is basically a super fancy noise toy or a mono synth in a very small portable low cost system. Add a delay pedal for $20 from the one who's name can not be said. Danelectro also makes cheap pedals. So does joyo. You have options.

This is one of the nicest micro systems I've ever seen, cool. I also have all three modules, so I might see what I can patch together using only them later.

I would've added Stages to get some sharper sounds, but I'm sure you'll survive. Lovely concept.

he said he owns 0-Coast. It can be used as a very simple MIDI-CV source. I use mine that way and i'm happy with it.

Thanks! I appreciate that I'm swimming upstream with my minimal approach, however it feels like the right choice for me.

However, as a concession to finances, I've decided to rack it in a Pod48x, which opens up another 4hp...for (as per EATyrGUITAR'S suggestion) an Ochd, or a Disting.

That's going to be a really fun little system! The built in LPG / envelopes in Plaits lets it work really great off gates / triggers without needing an envelope generator. Lots of modulation available sending Marbles through Links. Really well done. I could play around with that little system in my lap and some headphones for a really long time. Enjoy!

The link says $982. Why no filter? I know MI sometimes sneaks stuff in, but won't that impact the CV over dynamics?

My No Coast and Strega cost more than this system - for what it's capable of, I don't think the price is unreasonable.

I agree Stages would be a great next module to add to that setup. Micro sequencer, lfos, envelopes.. it would be great.

Ah, very cool! MI always seems to slide in an additional function. I had no idea Plaits had an LPG/Filter mode - always just though it was an oscillator. Thanks!

All possible in the future. For now, I'm committed to being disciplined and stick with the one system, plus my Make Noise gear. 🙏

I don't think that Plaits will filter pitched sounds, just percussion and noise sounds.
There are a few capable filters in Euro that Are 4 HP (hint)

As I understand from DivKid's video at 1:45

And as confirmed by the Plaits manual, you hold either one of the two A buttons, and then the Morph and Timbre knobs control various parameters of the internal LPG emulation.

This can be applied to all waveforms/voices.
