Just wanted to say I absolutely love the tone of this filter. My name on the pcb was a nice touch. Thanks so much. Will be buying a second when they become available again. I’d buy one for each channel if funds allowed 😁

I'll be opening up preorders for the April batch tomorrow,
I am really disappointed that you are not taking orders from the UK, but I understand the reason. I dearly hope that they will be available to UK
customers at some future point :waah:

I’m working on it, hopefully I’ll be able to ship to the UK again as of the next batch.

That has changed as of this year, I’m now happily shipping to the US!

As long as it’s priced above £135 ex-VAT, you should only have to work out how to fill up the custom form the first time, and the shipping company/customer should help take care of VAT and duty if any.
Pretty please! Think about those like me who are already greatly suffering from this collective madness, they don’t need another set back such as this! :help:

Sadly, it’s a bit more complicated than that. I need to register for a British EORI number, potentially also need to register for a British VAT number, and finally need to modify my invoice templates to show all of this extra info.

These are not insurmountable obstacles, but I’m only one person, running his business as a side gig. So, as a result, this all takes time, while developing new stuff and manufacturing the current stuff in parallel.

No fear though, I love my British customers and will eventually resume shipping once I’ve sorted out all the administrative hoops I have to jump through.

I’m really glad you’ve already been looking into it though. Much respect to you for juggling with it all.
I might just register a third time to your mailing list, just to make sure that I won’t miss on the next batch. :tu:

Just to update you guys on the pre-orders of the April batch: they sold out in less than 7 hours :O. I've started a waiting list for anyone who missed out. If you want to join that waiting list, shoot me an e-mail at info [at] threetom [dot] com.

If you're into DIY, I'm close to finishing a batch of full DIY kits for Exploding Shed. If you want to join the waiting list for these kits, shoot the guys at Exploding Shed an e-mail at shop [at] exploding-shed [dot] com. Synthcube told me the are also expecting to offer full kits towards the end of the month.

Is the DIY kit SMD or Through Hole?
I still haven’t broken my SMD virginity, so will probably wait a bit for a ready made version in this case.
Edit: It looks like the difficult bits are already soldered.

The Diy Version is Not that complicated.
I failed the calibration though. But Tom helped me out.

I finally got my diy kit today. I love the card and everything :hihi:
Kudos to Exploding Shed for sorting it out, they really went the extra mile for delivering it to me to the U.K.
It’s been difficult to get my hands on this one, so no pressure for building the kit now

I’m happy to report that my build went fine. :hyper:
I lost my screw soldering virginity in the process (it’s actually easier than it seems, I worked out that it’s best to use the tweezers to push back the screw in position before taking the iron off). With all the SMDs already pre-soldered, you only have to solder the headers, pots, switches, thonkiconns, LEDs and screw everything together, et voilà!

I will try to calibrate it today, and I haven’t read the manual yet, but I’ve already had a quick exploratory test and the sound coming out of this thing is already pretty sweet (that is when staying out of the gnarly zone). I especially like the change in tonality that different levels of Gain seems to bring and the Spread knob action. I’ve only had a single filter of this type before, and It almost feels like an SEM filter on steroids. Interesting.

Hopefully I’ll manage the calibration alright, as I am really looking forward to exploring the modulation possibilities with those matrix switches. :goo:

I currently have a waiting list going. I'm going to start taking people's money for the next batch in a few weeks. If you want to join the waiting list, send me an e-mail at info [at] threetom [dot] com. Currently, the amount of people on the waiting list is larger than my batch size though.

I'll also be resupplying Exploding Shed with full DIY kits and Wiretaps in a month or two :).

I think I’ve managed to complete the calibration. I couldn’t verify the last 40dB attenuation as I’m not a DAW person and had a feedback loop either in Reaper or with my audio interface. Also I wasted an hour after finally realising that Reaper (free version) needs a dummy event to play an FX plug-in :bang:

If I had an advice to make this process easier, as I got a bit lost in some places, I found it useful to start by first reducing the width (gain) of both filters to be able to get a feel for where the filter’s window of operation is, then offset and/or increase gain as needed. The resonance knob is your friend, increase/decrease when the peak is harder/easier to see.

I also tried to match both peaks at the same knob position, since it makes the two filters a lot easier to play with, and easier to calibrate the second one once you have done one already.
Bonus I guess, is having calibrated the filters myself, I now understand a lot better how they behave. I still need to read a bit more of the manual and try the interesting patch ideas.

Resonance past 12o clock is nasty, and depending on gain brings on all sort of cracks and howls, which I guess is typical of this type of filters (I never had an MS20).
