I recently got a brain custard in a trade and I can't seem to get it to emit any high frequency noise. I'm guessing its the cv version? I know that it was kit not factory built. Is there anything I should look for in order to confirm that it is indeed the lower frequency cv version?

You should be able to tell just by the LED behavior. Audio rate can go low enough to dance a bit but at higher positions will become solidly lit.

When you say high frequency do you mean just the high part isn't putting out audio or that none of the channels at full cw settings are outputting anything at audio rate?

If it's still unclear which version then check the back for which resistor codes are in spots on the PCB.

Here's the build guide with the parts that are substituted.

I'd also be happy to take a look at a photo of the back.

I'm getting audio, its just more of a low rumble. It doesn't sound like any of the demos I've watched on YouTube.

Are the LEDs changing in intensity when you turn the top and blend Knobs clockwise? The mid and high should get you some pretty trumpet-like sounds when mixed. The low is pretty low until the very last part of the blend knob iirc.

Here is a back-and-forth Neolithic and I had a while ago about this very subject (CV vs audio Brain Custard) fwiw.

The leds change in intensity but I'm definitely not getting anything resembling a trumpet regardless of what position the pots are turned to.

Looks like it's the cv version. The 10ks toward the top have been replaced with 471 codes on the SMD resistors. The 223 footprints don't look like 0805 1 ufs so Isohedra probably used 0603s on it from the parts drawer. Simple switch if you want audio.

Good to know, I can't thank you enough. I was worried that it might be broken.
