Please dont leave those lower power connectors exposed like that! One slip with a patch cable and you could fry a lot of modules. :eurosmoke:
Hah, yeah I'm still shuffling modules in that pic, and not put all the blanks back in. Lot of stuff I've picked up recently has also arrived, so the 9U is kinda full now

Plus I didn't have enough power cables either and never used the bottom rack - up until a few days ago, when I made a tonne of them and have been having some fun :D

Current but evolving rig, pretty cables

Post by JedTheFish » Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:06 pm

They sure pile up, but Modular Addict makes some fine braided cables. https://modularaddict.com/parts/cables/ ... tch-cables
I just realized I don’t want stable oscillators. Moog 4U didn’t have them. Befaco, Behringer and Doepfer can’t make them. I bet Instruo makes one. If I want stable oscillators, I’ll use Ableton. What am I missing?

Perhaps the part where in 2021 its entirely realistic to have an amazing sounding analogue oscillator that doesnt require constant tuning? You certainly dont have to accept drift in order to make a cool sound today in the way that you surely had to do in 1970. Also, probably the most stable analogue oscillator in my whole case is a Doepfer a-111-3. Just sayin.

the current state of things. latest is a complex oscillator with vactrols from the 2013 batch. just need to lock in the sequencer setup!

Latest to arrive was pressure points + brains... Had some fun running 2 channels of it through switchblade to have a 8 step sequence with a single PP! Also patching a dummy cable in the last brains input allows me to use the different pressure outputs as controllers without stopping the sequence... 😎

This pretty much sums up what I’ve been up to for the last 1/4 century, except the guitars are out of frame.
Oh yeah, it started with this.

That's an Arrel Audio ER-150 power supply.

Put together a smaller mobile build for gigs and jamming with friends. I grabbed the mono station for cheap when novation was clearing them out… it turns out it’s pretty fun and flexible. With a midi to cv converter I’ve got three channels of sequencing and an extra lfo or envelope.

Here's mine after about 7 years from start.... didn't bother to clean up. Lots of DIY in there. I'll try and get some better photo's after dark. The sunlight from the side windows screws up the photos...

2 channel amp circuit to bring audio out up to euro levels, backlit display, midi connections, audio level and display contrast control on the homemade panel, there's a MIDI to CV module just to the right of the qy70.

Impressive! I got rid of my QY100 a couple of years ago, I wish my PMA5 had a backlit display, it`s worse than the QY ever was! LOL

Awesome. I still have a QY300 that I bought from a neighbor in the mid-to-late 90s. Used to program hexidecimal on it for CCs...actual knob wiggling was recordable, but chewed up the memory insanely quickly. Pulled it out of storage last year, and the floppy drive was kaput. Shame, because a few weeks ago, I found this:

It's a Nono Lander 3.84. This was the original version which they no longer make but there's a new version called Lander Two. It is slightly different (but still 95% the same). I got this one when they were still a Kickstarter project. The Arrel Audio power supply and bus boards came with it in those days.

After 4 and a half years and multiple iterations, the synth is "done"! There are a few modules I'd like to swap for newer versions etc, but my wallet is saying "please make it stop!" The cables we see connected in the picture are the only ones permanent, sending clock signal/reset from ableton the the various sequencers. The ES-9 was really a game changer in terms of complete integration with the computer/cable management to external soundcard. Inputs 11-14 are used to send cv to the computer, input 1 is for the 303. Bottom row is control, second row is modulation, top 2 are audio stuff. The external faderfox sequencer can do similar things to a M185, pitch and gate sent thru outputs 5-6. Obviously, almost all audio effects are done in ableton.

edit: forgot to mention, my goal with this one was for it to be portable.

I recently downsized my main system from 9U/84HP to this. I also have a 6U/84HP "sidecar" case that recently sits in a shelf. Downsizing is fun. I managed to record a whole record within three sessions. - Big creativity boost.
-And accidentially I stumbled over the Richard Devine Tribute Instagram filter. - Looks nice...

Nice setup. Digging the kraken cabling vibes. Are those CTRL camo cables?

Current state of my rig, after moving from a handful of cases into one primary case.

The Palette typically handles clocks and triggers, and some of the sequencing. The pod is a 'doodle pad', at the moment I am using it as a 'warehouse rave' drum kit. Not pictured is a Model 12 and DAW setup, and a few bits of synth/drum machine kit.

Thanks! No. That's a mix of Erica Synths and Doepfer cables. And they're not at all camo (red, yellow, green..)
That's just the filter (not Belgrad, I mean the filter applied to the pic :hihi:)
I think I might move the DPO and Belgrad to the upper left so they're closer to the VCAs in the lower left to avoid that huge mess of cables going straight across the whole rack when patching a traditional east coast voice.
