Blacet 2030 Final Filtre- hunt for BOM?

Post by synthcube » Wed May 05, 2021 2:49 pm

Somehow missing from the ancient Blacet apple mac artifacts is a version of the Final Filtre BOM we can use--- anyone got an old original laying around they are willing to share perhaps?

With gratitude, in advance

Thank you! BOM located.
Interestingly, many of the BOMS do not exist in electronic form on the old Mac-- they are paper artifacts, one master copy of each module's build guide+BOM printed on heavy stock paper and stored in a plastic sleeve. Its a really cool old-school analogue method for documenting the really cool old school analogue module designs :)
Yes, it will all eventually be scanned and pdf'ed etc but for now, the paper master versions are priceless history!

The Final Filtre is great. Very pristine and low noise. At high resonance before oscillation, I liken the sound to that of ball bearings plopping in a large barrel of water. 5 pole 30db/octave slope and it can CV track 1V/Oct as a pure sine oscillator for 3 octaves or more. I have 2. I built one early on and the other was already built. John sent 2 resistors and new IC to me (without me knowing of the issue) on the first kit module for replacement to keep one of the ICs from prematurely failing. Mine didn't fail, but he sent a replacement IC anyway.
From his website:
FF2030 (Final Filtre) Long Term Reliability Advisory
Based on some long term testing being done here and by one of our customers (thanks, JP!), there is evidence that changing R44 and R45 to 10K (from 5.6K) will significantly improve the reliability of U13 (13600). Over the years, this IC has shown failure in most units returned for repair.
If U13 is bad, the filter will not self oscillate or may have a noisy spot as you rotate the frequency knob. Sometimes cycling the power will restore IC function, but it may work only sporadically.
We are advising that you change the two resistors and replace U13.
Assembled units that shipped after Oct 2004 have already been modified. If in doubt, check your board.

I’m pretty sure I scanned a copy of my manual to my computer ages ago. I’m sure it’s buried in a hard drive somewhere
