Re: NE Versio firmwares are closed source?

I would be very surprised if they were. There are many programmers out there but very, very few of them are any good at audio dsp. Witness how many copies of mutable's firmware are in existence and I don't think any of them add anything to the code. The audio dsp in the versio modules is NE's secret...

Re: Supercritical NEUTRON FLUX 8 Pole Variable Character Filter

Oh, one negative: the neutral output is fairly quiet (at least compared with other filters) so if you want to filter without drive you may need to raise the level afterwards by other means

Re: Supercritical NEUTRON FLUX 8 Pole Variable Character Filter

I finally got one: it is astonishing. I hesitated buying one for some time because I had a number of reservations: filters with tons of modes tend to be mediocre at most of them with just a few stand outs and even if the filter does have more than a few of decent modes, a few modes end up dominating...

Re: Digital Oscillators

Another option is synth tech's e352 . It offers numerous different modes and, since you can upload your own wavetables, is a potentially endless source of sounds. I didn't like its sound as much the shapeshifter, though, but of course YMMV. My favourite digital oscillator is erica synth's graphic vc...

Re: Digital Oscillators

Shapeshifter . It's a very deep module full of interesting sounds and possibilities. Furthermore, it's one that rewards exploration so you're unlikely to get bored of it any time soon. It can be somewhat challenging to get the most out of it (at least initially), but there's an excellent series of ...

This is an excellent idea. There are a few zdsp cards that tickle my fancy and that would be great to have in a small space

Mucking about with this last night and while it might be a bit unfinished, it's such a fantastic oscillator. Worth it for the fx section alone. Actually, worth it just for the FM part of the fx section...

Re: Erica Synths Graphic VCO

whats the main concern/demand long term users have ? i got one just recently at a bargain price..so i dont know much about it.. I guess the main thing is that it is so close to greatness but some bugs and design decisions keep it from this. It would be a truly incredible module if these could be fi...

You're right though, there aren't many oscillators that have both simultaneously.
Bit late, but doepfer's a-110-2, a-111 and a-111-2 offer both types as well

Yeah, this is a terrific filter. I am a big fan of his work generally. His roland filters capture the very essence of why I love that company's vintage products. You can definitely tell that these modules are made by someone who makes music with them.

Re: Module which unexpectedly blew you away?

Adding to what I said earlier: gstormelectro's filters. Again, not because I didn't expect much of them (they're reproductions of classics after all) but familiarity with modular (and music tech generally) has left me slightly jaded. All the ones I have are amazing, but the sh2-vcf has become my sta...

fx-aid - sounds so much better than I was expecting and just unbelievable support by igorrr
joranalogue generate 3 - considering how long I have been doing this I just wasn't expecting to like an oscillator as much as I like this one

Re: Happy Nerding FX AID XL VS TipTop Z5000 vs ..?

The HN and tiptop modules are based on the spin FV-1 which does not have a clock input. Tiptop released a card for the zdsp that featured clocked delays but this was a clever software based workaround. In a similar vein, the fx-aid offers two delay programs that allow you to sync the delay with an e...
