I thought you would never ask: 😜

Roland DEP-5
Yamaha TX81Z
Lexicon MPX 500
Roland SDE-1000
I don't know what it is, but the Roland boxes with different colours, god damn I just want them so badly! Some day, I will also get a nice rack

Re: Upgrading pickups for a Fender Jaguar Bass

I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m not a fan of the PJ setup, mostly because of the OPs initial complaint of a weak-sounding J pickup. I don't know if any here is really rooting for the PJ combo, as the discussion more seem to steer towards how different basses and pickups sounds, and why :...

No I wouldn’t. I think similar to Joe. above, but I also dont like cheap things in general. Then I rather not buy at all

Re: Music you sort of get but can't get get into

In terms of the OP, Moby comes to mind. I have several of his CDs that I've never listened to more than once. I've watched a couple of his Youtube videos and I just find him kind of weird and pretentious but I have to admit, he has great taste in gear. Moby's music is completely lacking low end. I ...

You have enough gear mate. I would follow McMuffs advice and sell off the excess. Then stop to check gear videos, stop looking whats new, stop buying full stop.

Re: music production first thing in the morning?

A few years ago I quit my job to make music for a year. the anxiety of needing a job and having no money would ruin that for me. during covid lock down and no work - it was perfect for creativity though -as i was being paid + could have the day for myself. for a year of music production - i would n...

Re: music production first thing in the morning?

A few years ago I quit my job to make music for a year. During that time I threated it like a job: woke up around 9-10, had a cup of coffee, went for a walk and then I started to make music. It was great! The best time is really between 10-12. If you get up a bit earlier, say around 8-ish, you’ll fo...

Re: The sociology of dust on gear

I play music in a few different live bands. We have our own shared studio space, with all of our gear. We tour and play in shoddy venues regularly. As a result, our gear is much less 'precious'. It gets dusty. It gets chipped and bashed and beaten up, and that's just part of it. Cables get trashed ...

Re: The sociology of dust on gear

Im no pro, but I try to dont worry too much about my gear. Everything is in top, working condition - of course - but it is only things in the end, so who cares if they are a bit banged up. I have a guitar that is important to me, and I would be sad if I broke it. Most people I know have a similar at...

Re: Layering/Stacking

My two cents: To keep phase-type cancellations at bay, I simply totally de-tune my guitar, then tune by hand again before repeating takes. This is all in my head, but it seems to make a 'lusher' sound (the natural chorusing-type effect of slight variations in the tuning). I do the same with my mono...

Re: Ableton CPU Spikes, Makes A Loud Distorted Noise, And Then Audio Drops Out

I think windows by default has some weird power saving-thing going on with USB ports, so they disable them when the OS doesn't think they are being used. That might be an issue too.

But honestly, I have no idea. In my case, the problem disappeared when I tossed the USB-controller.

Re: Going to leak this....

I am very exited to hear you entire album 3hands! The vocalist did an amazing job. I particularly like how parts of hear voice blend in with the pads in the background. It creates a very big sound. The song feels a bit nostalgic in tone, as you have a memory of something that is nice, but maybe it i...

Re: Upgrading pickups for a Fender Jaguar Bass

These kinds of threads are always a bit tough because pickup tone and response is such a personal preference - and we're all working with different playing and musical styles. A better bet would be to try and find basses with the pickup combinations you're interested in to see if you like them, but...

Re: Ableton CPU Spikes, Makes A Loud Distorted Noise, And Then Audio Drops Out

I had a similar issue which was the result of a bad USB controller (or a bad USB cable, never really figured it out). Anyways, when I disconnected the USB controller (and cable) I never had that issue again. USB ports have caused a lot of issues with my windows computers, so it might be worth checki...

Re: Emerging gear decision approaching

I think you really, really want a nice mixer. So you should sell your eurorack in order to pay off that really nice mixer. Maybe you should find one that isn't that expensive (40k is, no matter how one put it, a lot for a 12 channel mixer) but then again, I am pretty certain that you have checked ev...

I suppose Tim Drummond should be mentioned as well. I'll bet he has played on at least one of your favourite rock albums.

And when I think about it, Pino Palladino! His bass lines on the Voodoo album is tight, tight, TIGHT!

Thanks for the suggestions and yes in regards to strings: I just changed to flatwounds and took the time to really set up everything nice and nice. Upgrading pickups for a Fender Jaguar Bass

Hello rockin' wigglers out there 8-) Im thinking about getting better pickups for my Jaguar Bass. The stock ones aren't that great - they do the job, but the jazz pickup just don't cut it. The bass is a Jaguar, so it is a P/J bass combo. I don't know if I have to buy a combo, or if I can buy pickups...

Re: I stopped listening to the kind of music I make

I think it would be very hard to make music that is completely isolated from all the music that has already been made. Most of the things we do is a culmination of efforts that has been made by humans over our entire civilisation. I personally like to be part of that bigger narrative, so I hope that...
