Re: 73-75 Serge panels from Zthee

Hi all, Can anyone tell me what's going on with the triple comparator BOM? The values on the PCB are completely different than what's in the BOM in the build document. From the looks of it, the separate BOM document does contain some of the component values that are missing in the build document. A...

Re: Records with a sense of PLACE

Shellac is pretty good at this. The first two albums especially. And even more especially the single "The Bird Is The Most Popular Finger" where they've attached a photograph of the room (some spacious apartment) they recorded it in.

Re: CMOS direct to Eurorack

FWIW I have Craig Anderton’s 4049 distortion on stripboard in my rack and it works. No voltage control, though. Apparently these CMOS chips blow up if you feed them negative voltages. You could probably design some way to get voltage control that protects against negative voltages, though. If you’re...

Re: M1 Macbook vs. Lenovo Thinkbook vs. MS Surface

I think the M1 Macbook Pro is a great buy, but the M1 Air is even better value for almost the same performance. Thanks for the heads up about the Air, but I read it has no cooling fan which makes me a little sceptical... The point of the Soundcraft MTK is to run your channel into a DAW channel and ...

Would using a pair of 12v wall warts wired together as -12v _ 0v _ +12v work even if they`re switch mode PSUs? Wait ... you can do this? How? Sure, you take the Pos from one lead and connect that to the neg of the other. where they join is now the Zero volts rail and the other 2 remaining leads wil...

Re: Decent 16-channel mixer?

Not 19" but I'm using a Soundcraft Signature 22 with Multitrack. 14 mono + 4 stereo. I seem to recall I paid €650 for it new. I think it is great and with a patch bay I can get around its main deficiency which is lack of inserts. Recording is very easy with it. I really wish it was 19" though. Not ...

Re: 73-75 Serge panels from Zthee

3086 or 3046 ought to work, but I wouldn't go anywhere near NTE parts. I once bought an NTE optoisolator that was supposed to be equivalent to what I was looking for (forget which one, but for a MIDI project). I could look at the top of the chip in a sideways light and see that they had barely sand...

Re: 73-75 Serge panels from Zthee

Hi everyone, I have a question about sourcing components for the Homebuilt that I believe never got a definitive answer in this thread (but I may have missed it among its 20 pages): Is there any chip that can be used as a replacement for the CA3086 in the Negative Slew ? Someone on another forum hin...

Re: Befaco Muxlicer

Just built one of them. It's a fairly easy build (certainly less cramped than the Rampage I built before it) except for the 8 pins you need to solder that are all but flush against the power connector. And like someone else said on this forum: check for shorts BEFORE you solder on the pots and conne...

Another recommendation for AI Synthesis. Instructions are really good and modules are really useful (and easy to make).

@OP : congratulations. Rampage is not an easy first build.

It's not hard per sé, but the boards are absolutely stuffed. It's very easy to accidentally solder a pin hole shut.

Re: designing modules from scratch

The book “Practical Electronics for Inventors” is also pretty good. It teaches you how electronic circuits work, in a fairly practical way (as you’d expect, given the title). There’s math but it’s fairly accessible and they show some basic circuits that illustrate how specific components can be put ...

Re: Native Instruments Komplete on a Raspberry Pi 4

Above you. But I'll reiterate: it's not possible. NI does not make its software available for the CPU (ARM) that's in the RPi. So neither Linux nor Windows is going to work. Period. If you want a small computer for dedicated sampling duties, get something that contains Intel, like a second hand HP P...

Re: Without asio4all and/or dedicated soundcard, optimal daw/virtualstudio?

DAW or “Virtual Studio” is not the problem here. They’ll all work. Number of tracks depends on how fast your CPU is. Sound card only really, meaningfully, matters if you want to record things. Even then, if stereo input is fine, you can probably get by with an onboard chip. It might be a little bit ...

Re: Twisted-Electronics AY3 - 8bit desktop chiptune synth

Bax RMA is horrible. Used to be fine a couple of years ago but then they got big and couldn’t handle the volume. Before, you could call them and someone would walk down to the floor to sort things out for you. Now, you get put through to a call center in Surinam and all they can do is read you a scr...

Re: Solution to clogged hole with solder

I use one of those fine tweezers I bought thinking I’d get into SMD work. Much sturdier than resistor leads.

Glad to read others have this problem as well, btw. I thought there was something really wrong with my soldering skills. Now I know I’m not the only one.

Love their albums, but the only time I saw them live it was a disappointment. Lots of preaching prevented any sort of atmosphere from happening and if that wasn’t bad enough halfway through they made the venue turn the lights on. Completely tone deaf. But, like I said, I like their albums and I like...

Just finished building mine today. It sounds AWESOME, especially with the resonance (and the resonance trimmer) cranked all the way up*. Easy build, too. Instructions were very thorough. Only strange thing is I ended up with an extra 100K resistor that wasn't in the build guide or BOM. Oh well. I'm ...

There’s a Korg Electribe ER-1 app which is ... like an ER-1. Since the controls on that thing were never very precise you don’t really lose much by swapping it out for an iOS app.

Lots of good advice and info here. First of all, if I had been aware of the existence of Scheme 4 Max or Cacophony a week ago I would not have tried to build something of my own. Clearly my Google-fu is lacking. Or maybe it’s the Lisp curse where the language is so powerful the barrier to creating y...
