Front Panel connections

Does anyone have a list of the connections from the host and carrier boards to the front panel sockets ? It's not obvious how the signal names on the circuit diagram match the names on Crow's fpd

Thanks, John

fpd file for dual reverb in 5U

Anyone got an fpd panel design file for this reverb unit ? I want to build a dual unit for my 5U modular so if a design already exists I can hack that.

Thanks, John

Clock and gate signal levels

Tony,
What are the gate and clock levels us use on the ADSR etc ? I'm finishing an MFOS sequencer that generates ground to +15V levels. Just want to make sure I don't need to change the output levels so I don't blow anything up :-(

Here's the 5U panel design. Waiting for it to arrive from Schaeffer, but I think it will work.

Take a look at the MFOS sequencer at http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/anal ... 6_2006.php
I'm just waiting for the boards from the US before I start the build. I've also done a 5U fpd for the front panel if you're interested.

The front panel for the PSU includes fixing holes for the PCB and power transistors but to make sure there was a big enough heatsink I mounted the PCB on insulated pillars with the transistors attached directly to the rear panel of my case. The case is wood, but the back panel is a sheet of 3mm alum...

Thanks for the advice, Think I'll go for one of the small Mackie mixers.

Hollowman, if the idea of nipple CVs floats your boat, then this http://www.makeymakey.com/ might be a suitable start for an interface :-)

Advice on mixers wanted

So my chunk of Oakley modules is nearing completion (for now) and I want to link it into my Mac. I've got an M-Audio MIDI USB box and a Presonus AudioBox USB for audio I/O. I need a small mixer to complete the interconnections. Does the assembled multitude have some advice on mixers that I should co...

I posted a version onto Muff's las year. Do a search on Excel and jbi and it pulls up the thread on parts lists. You can download the spreadsheet from there. There is an Excel lookup command in the programming language which allows you to lookup cells based on some text. I used this command to popul...

I played around with Excel for BOMs for my Oakley modules. Rather than tie into one supplier, I described the components in a generic way then added worksheets for Farnell and Rapid in the UK which mapped the generic component name to their part numbers. Using Excel's lookup commands I could then cr...

I had the same problem. In the UK I couldn't find rails at a reasonable price so I used 0.5 inch 3mm thick L section aluminium and drilled and tapped my own. It was rather tedious but works. They then fitted into a wooden cabinet.
Good Luck,

Problem parts

I'm having a problem getting the 1u5 polyester C2 for the MidiDAC. Farnell don't seem to have the part and finding one elsewhere is not getting anywhere.

Also I need a short length of IDC 10 way cable for the Quad VCA. Anyone know who sells short lengths ?

Cheers,
John

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the comments. Depth is around 220mm. I got the L section from a local metal supplier in the UK. You should look for a supplier that supports small hobby engineering projects. Half inch is a good size. Anything larger might start to foul the PCBs and sockets.

Thanks for the comments. No reason in particular for choosing 3mm aluminium but it does give some lateral stiffness to the cabinet (though thinner metal would probably work as well). Also, other discussions on Muff's about heat sinks led me to this type of construction (give the PSU as much heat sin...

Yes, I didn't have a vertical drill to accurately drill all the holes so I do them as I need them. It's easy to offer up the module, mark the hole with a spring loaded centre punch then drill and tap. The fixing bolts are M4 socket cap screws. Billy the Synth - A work in progress

I've been lurking on this forum for the last year so I thought it was time to show what I've been doing since I started the project. Why "Billy the Synth" ? When I started I had a temporary cabinet from a hacked IKEA Billy bookshelf so the name kinda stuck - also there's a certain homage to Frank Za...
