Re: Twisted Electrons MEGAfm

Music like the Street of Rage 3 OST are why this synth needs to be considered. The tone is such a unique sound of FM and it has a great balance between hifi and grit. That along with knob per function is just :75:

Re: Twisted Electrons MEGAfm

The Sega FM chip has a lot of nonlinear distortion that isn't really replicable in any VST or other hardware. I think the closest cousin is the DX11, but even then the Sega FM chip has grunge thats unique. Similar to the Twisted Electrons TherapSID its basically a Rolls Royce of chiptune synthesizer...

How would you compare the Digitone to Ableton Operator plug-in when it comes to sound design possibilities and sonic quality (not looking at the sequencing aspects of the Digitone) ? Ableton Operator has a lot more going on. If you use and like Push then there is little need for Digitone IMO. For a...

I think the issue is in synthesis itself. Any of the interesting things happening sound-design wise are coming out of places like IRCAM or GRM, or similarly-minded commercial companies like Zynaptiq. All digital, all software. Part of the challenge of bringing that to hardware is that unlike a subtr...

Word is that the Boomstars are better. If it wasn't for import taxes to the EU I'd have been very tempted, but they're expensive to begin with. Here is a Boomstar 3003 for $450. Sounds more like a System 100 than a TB303 clone, tons of timbre to explore. Even with shipping, $450USD is a steal https...

yeah, what "DIY" spirit involves hundreds of machined parts designed by corporate entities, using limited-use tape created from chemical processes, and further requires money any time you want to record? OTO Bam does everything you want and more, it sounds a notable step better than any other piece of gear listed (but that is reflected in the cost.)

New is $650 USD, can be found for cheaper. Its truly the best modern hardware reverb unit I have heard, and will be a future classic.

TDR's Kotelnikov is truly the best mastering compressor plugin ever made, I think there are rivals for limiting and EQ (mainly from DMG, another insanely talented programmer) but if Kotelnikov was in a rack mount it would sell for thousands, easily. The fact its free is even more insane.

I was the drum leader of my high school’s marching band, and also played in experimental /krautrocky type bands. With drumming you need to learn that “jamming” is a separate entity from “practice.” You will not get better if you just jam. You need to practice like you were in a military drum corps. ...

You use the components app to create a miceotuning preset. You just drag pitches to a MIDI keyboard map, save and export.
