Re: PWM Malevolent - new analog monosynth

Replace one of those envelopes with a wave folder, and we’d hear something that actually resembles malevolence.

Your wallet is not even close to safe. It is under siege, and coming to this page on the reg is the equivalent to letting the enemy enter the back door every other night.

Re: SonicSmith Converter E1

Their pedals were wonky and a bit overpriced. But the tracking oscillator and the ideas in play were interesting. I had their little Modulor A1, and it was a pretty capable noise maker. Just a VCO, VCA, and LFO. I actually have a tiny bit of seller’s regret regarding that little guy. I think euro mo...

Re: Choosing an analog monosynth

You should be able to sync to plain midi clock. If you try this and it works, please post. Just tested with my Pyramid and it does work. Just sending clock, no notes. https://youtu.be/D9B9txdaDaQ Dope. I don’t think there’s a single iteration of the Lepzig that I didn’t want. Such a great sounding ...

Re: Erica Synths desktop digital Matrix Mixer

The 1/4" io is still unity gain at best.. seems like a (very minor) missed opportunity.. Yeah, but the cost on this thing is already prohibitive. If this were the final mixer in a set up, then it would matter a lot more. But since you’re already likely going into another mixer, it’s an opportunity ...

Re: gear receding, music haunts like a ghost

If all of is are capable of experiencing joy, then comparison is the thief of joy. Consequently, all of us also have an inner betrayer. If we let that individual take center stage, they will pilot us into oblivion. The only way to put a stop to that shit is to give the reins to the one inside that w...

Re: Erica Synths desktop digital Matrix Mixer

Yeah, I think this device is more about:
1. putting together a single patch
2. Cross-modding that one patch in 200 ways. So if you find a really good patch you like, this lets you keep it and explore it.
3. Easily introducing line-level instruments and/or FX pedals on the 1/4” I/O.

If you are practicing and/or exploring, and you discover something, it’s worth remembering and revisiting. How many times will you go back? It doesn’t matter. What does your heart say? Some things may only be “right” a time or two. Some might be worth recording. Within this set of principles, reverb...

Re: Best FX pedals with built-in FX loop?

The Pladask Taken delay has a loop with the option of effects impacting only repeats or the direct sound as well. I've not had the right pedals to really take advantage of it or the Rubberneck - dirt in the loop is kind of boring. Just got a Mu-Tron Bi-Phase, so I need to give that a spin soon. The...

Unless I'm missing something, doesn't almost every FX pedal have a send and return jack? Isn't it their sole purpose to fill that role?
The DOD Rubberneck has a separate send/return. This vid is a good one for showing the distinction:

The Rubberneck seems like a lot of bang for your buck. From what I’ve heard in the past, it sounds really good.

I have it on cassette. While I feel that it owes much to the sound of the Joe Preston-era of The Melvins, it is certainly one of the best of the genre.

Best FX pedals with built-in FX loop?

I’m interested in hearing people’s experiences with effects pedals that have built-in send/return jacks. Many of these types of pedals are delay and/or reverb (there might be the random feedbacker or fuzz out there, also). Just want to know what’s good, and what to avoid.

I guess the other item available in a similar format is the Dreadbox Hypnosis. But the lack of control on that thing is pretty egregious. Especially for Dreadbox.

Re: Vermona retroverb lancet vs Ekdahl moisturizer

Are these two (and the Dust Collector) The only devices in their class as far as spring reverb? Vermona also has some other spring reverbs like the VSR 3.2, the DSR-3, and the ReTubeVerb. They’re nice. But I’m a table top unit addict. Plus, the controls on the lancet version are near perfect. The o...

Re: Choosing an analog monosynth

I'd also say that as far as I am concerned, any demo sound or sequence is highly questionable. Yes, of course. It’s always better to check synths out personally. But a lot can be deduced from comparing company demos to user demos online. There are a LOT of terrific user demos for the Lepzig synths ...
