Re: WTF am I doing wrong with this sub osc circuit
Scope the clock input (TR1 collector) and compare it to the modern 4013 datasheet. The input signal is not fast enough. The reason why they used it with the SH-101 this way has to do with the phases while summing the rising saw of 3340 and the sub osc. ps. We modded the first edition of Black Corpor...

Re: WTF am I doing wrong with this sub osc circuit
Just ditch the TR1 and use a square wave for an input signal, then all of those 4013 will work just fine.

Re: How to find fitting Pots, Jacks and Switches and how to deal with differences
Two PCBs? Take a look at different DIY modules and compare BOMs. It's a struggle for sure, but also the name of the game, googling part numbers and datasheets, endlessly. Good luck!

Yeah, I guess. Nevertheless, it wouldn't change the fact that there are no chips. If only times would "normalize" soon..Altitude909 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 7:13 am just get them made up somewhere, its way less than you think..

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - Available!
Yes, we are living in frustrating times when even mechanical switches can become suddenly obsolete. I haven't had time to check these out, but they look promising: https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-1-1825289-0.html If you do find an alternative that works, please share the details here. The enclosur...

Re: Feedback please- parts naming uF/nF/pF units
Metric system basics. Applies to caps in the power of 10^(-3), 10^(-6), 10^(-9), 10^(-12), which are milli, micro, nano, pico. Everyone is 1000x bigger/smaller. No decimal points either, use the unit for decimal point, like: 4u7 (=4.7uF) 4n7 (=0.0047uF) 4p7 (=4.7pF) The same applies to resistors, 10...

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - Available!
SUCCESS!! I had to harvest an STM32 from a dev board I got off Amazon lol. The other saver was getting a good solder wick. Turns out they aren’t all created equal. :sb: :yay: :hyper: That's good news! Those dev boards are pretty much the only way to find (real) SMT32F's at the moment. -Janne

Re: Where is Oldcrow
I did buy his Crowminius back in 2016 or something and I did get the PCB pretty soon after purchasing. My build got stuck in the "design and build a proper enclosure" -phase, so I'm not sure if he ever finished the firmware for the midi2cv or the USB port. Besides that, no complaints. The ...

Re: Where is Oldcrow
It's all about communication. If there's a (human) reason for the delay, people generally understand, even when 2 years behind. If there's nothing, only radio silence, people tend to get anxious. It's pretty easy to stop these "scammer!!" accusations simply by communication. Takes 1min, do...

Re: this is a stupid question but..with the SSI chips so good, how come there are so few DIY polysynth kits?
Little do I know of musical applications, but I suspect Penderecki, Ligeti, Xenakis and a few others would beg to differ. Sure, but can you seriously argue that the majority of the customers will need this full-polyphony -feature? I argue that in this kind of synth the majority of the voice cards w...

Re: this is a stupid question but..with the SSI chips so good, how come there are so few DIY polysynth kits?
You know how pianos have sustain pedals? These have three uses: the first is just let a note linger while your hand is repositioning; the second is to allow vibrating strings to be rehammered for greater volume; but the third is to get more overlapping tails of notes. Is the sustain pedal on a pian...

Re: this is a stupid question but..with the SSI chips so good, how come there are so few DIY polysynth kits?
I suspect that there is a new DIY sweetspot though: for the polymoog/Korg3300 "synth under every key" synth. This is because it is so cheap to mass product the voicing cards using SMT and PCB assembly services to do most of the populating. Back in the day, the reason for full polyphony wa...

Re: this is a stupid question but..with the SSI chips so good, how come there are so few DIY polysynth kits?
The hard part is those decisions on what to include and what to leave out. You cannot "add another module" and even if you do, it will probably have to be x-times-the-polyphony. And if you do add more analog circuitry, this also needs to be taken into account in the user interface. It's no...

Re: PROGUE - Analog mono synth - Available!
Greetings Any idea when "PANEL + PCB SET (PRE-POPULATED W/SMT) (I)" might be available again? Sorry if I missed it somewhere, just trying to read through the thread and the website Hi! Unfortunately, the global IC shortage is making it near impossible to restock at the moment. The MCU, DA...

Having some issues with MIDI. I have 2 units, one was just bare PCB's and the other was all smd presoldered. When I finished the bare boards, i was able to load the firmware in, but it was not responding to midi. I could see the messages coming it, but nothing at the output. Thinking I messed up a ...

If you are into non-Eurorack, try our (Polymoog) Resonator as a first SMD build
https://www.jsisynth.com/resonator.html
and when you have acquired some confidence, move on to Progue if your up for a vintage-sounding Moog:

And quite honestly in this day and age of low cost PCB fab and assembly in China there is no reason for even the DIY crowd, nor even the bedroom modular businesses, to not use tiny packages like these. DIY = Design-it-yourself or DIY = Build-it-yourself or Do-it-yourself as in Do-Exactly-What? :hih...

A little heads-up: Only 5 PCB-A (pre-soldered SMTs) and 5 enclosures for Progue are left at jsisynth.com. A new PCB-A batch is NOT planned in the near future due to the IC shortage, so act now if you want one. (We do have plenty of PCB only -bundles if you want to do it all from scratch with the Ham...
