Re: How many patch cables do you have? Per format.

one of those eurodesk-z hex-01 hangers on a mic stand, completely full. quite a lot of them are the lovely Analog Solutions patch cables, the ones with the skinny plugs, so fairly good density on the hanger plus some 150cm patch cables that are too long for the hanger https://www.eurodesk-z.com/prod...

Fully spec'd M1 24" iMac due for delivery first week of July - I decided to divide it's price by 8 and suddenly it didn't seem so expensive, especially when I compare it to modules.
good way to look at it

do the new iMacs do "Target Display mode" like some of the old ones did?

Re: Migrating to Apple silicon - issues, solutions, trouble-shooting

Ordered a 16GB M1 mini as soon as they were available and now have an M1 macbook pro for work also. Loving them both. Particularly the way they are completely silent. No amount of abuse in my workflow seems to be enough to make the fans audible. I don't do any audio stuff on either of them, just sof...

Re: Worth trading a Juno 106 for a Jupiter xm?

You could get that Softube 106 emulation that just came out if you sold the Juno and then want to scratch the old itch - sounds dead on! I'm sure the various emulations are right on, but I think this is mostly missing the point of the 106. As other folks have said above. It's a very tactile and dir...

start putting some cash away, and when you have enough, sell the 106 and order a Deckard's Dream with the combined funds

bonus: now the electronics industry is struggling with chronic parts supply problems and now either many modules will be unavailable... or hard to get and (even more) expensive

Just use the A-143-9 and a voltage processor to boost its output - it has one of the cleanest quadrature outputs available do you have a particular processor in mind? i tried using my doepfer dvca to increase gain but it just attenuates. i guess i need more vca's... well yeah, "need more VCAs" is a...

Re: I hate LEDs

Yeah it seems folks with colour perception issues get completely ignored in a lot of UI design. Disappointing. Much more OT than colourblindness but I recently learned while chatting with a work colleague that colour and contrast also affect (some?) people's ability to cope with dyslexia. I'd wonder...

Re: I hate LEDs

I hear ya. I'm ok with red. The purple LEDs @andrewF used for some items on my NLC cellF panels are lovely and non-blinding. The green LEDs in the linear pots in my Clarke68/CGS res eq are horrific. Does the nail varnish/polish react with the plastics used as the LED lens? Or just form a thin coveri...

Re: Counting modular synths?

Good questions. Surprised no one mentioned HP. Not that it answers Katherine Alicia's question, or that, by itself it conveys anything about the functionality, number of voices, or much else. All it does is give some idea of the amount of space (and bank account?) it consumes. Another metric is num...

Re: Counting modular synths?

my synth sprawls across many cases, but only because there's just too much of it to fit in one case eg. i have a 14u "portable" case that is a pair of 7u cases that join together in the middle. I also have an extra lid so I can separate the two 7u sections from each other and carry just the lower ha...

Re: Patch Cable Length?

yeah the plug size — the diameter and especially the height of the non-flexible section — really matters, it can totally change how usable they are with more cramped panel layouts, or when you are using many cables. lateral load on patch cable plugs is probably going to accelerate wear on your modul...

I mean, about 200 inputs x 160 outputs makes one hell of a lot of permutations, plus about 140 knobs and 60 switches is a lot of wiggle room, even before thinking about firmware options... yeah I think the choice of modules makes a huge difference to usability of big systems Modules in my wall are ...

Of course it depends on what you want to do with it. Having all the modules in the ssp and just got an easel command, the easel would be more limited in my opinion. It can keep you busy for a lifetime for sure but the ssp can do more but not necessarily the same. Rene does more than the easel seque...

curious what you mean by tony rolando’s distributed mixing? instead of having a "mixer module" there are little mixers distributed throughout the system. it works, but in every case you have to give something else up in order to use it. For example, * Maths is a mixer, but to mix more than two sign...
