Re: Interpreting SMD capacitor silk screen.

Never seen it like that... can you figure out correct polarity using continuity testing instead to work out which rail is which?

Small Bear Electronics NEWS - retiring..

I heard of this on the SDIY mailing list... sad in some ways, but also perfectly positive! What a lovely, uncompromisingly decent setup Steve, Judy & the Small Bear team built over the years! It'd be lovely if someone would step in to allow the business to continue, but understandable if not. Warm a...

Phaser!

Here's the details at long last... 2FW Phaser - built around 12 VCA all-pass-filter stages (2164 based so clean!) - that makes for 6-poles, though you can also select 4 or 5 pole if you want less thick'n'lovely sound... It took a good number of prototype iterations to reach this design - all built f...

Also, don't forget that the feedback is jumper-selectable on the back between 8-10-12 stages. I have only used it at 12 so far, though.
It is actually both for the feedback path and the wet phase output - you can set it to 8 stages if you want less thick & tasty sound tbh!

Re: Eurorack output impedance

That just states that the input impedance is 10k (or more) - very standard. Simply implies that you probably shouldn't use a high impedance signal - your euro output should be absolutely fine, so it sounds like the problem is elsewhere. It also says that you're fine to use a mono (TipSleeve) jack in...

Hi Tom,
No dice... tried a few cables, multiple locations in both cases and all is still dark on DDSR. Everything else is running OK. I must have done something to it during the shuffle.
Strange!
Drop me an email & we'll work it out.

Re: Help me tweek my Bugbrand setup

Unplug/replug it first to check it is done correct.
Easy check - on one side, set clock to Ext, data to Hi and XOR to Recirc - this should start data going in in a loop

Re: List of music made primarily with Bugbrand?

I interviewed and recorded people in the street, asking if they knew what "Bugbrand" was. I enjoyed the answer of the girl we hear in the first track of the album. "Bugbrand? Is that right? What is that? A microwave brand?" Haha! Maybe they've been following the instagram #bugbrand which does throw...

Re: Synth with variable waveform w/PWM pot

Mine doesn't have PWM but it'd be perfectly possible to design it in (obvs with more controls!) so that the Sqr on the Shape control became vari-width.

Re: 2130 VCO (finally a larger VCO!)

The perceptual thing about how we perceive low frequency, infrasonic clicks transitioning towards continuous tones, is a favorite area to explore. The chip specs say Frequency Sweep Range is a thousand to one and the module provides two 1V/O inputs, so dialing in something like 2Hz to 2KHz is doabl...

Re: 2130 VCO (finally a larger VCO!)

Is TZFM something that can be accomplished with a pair of the CVCOs and another module(s? Some way to add the frequency/pitch that goes past zero back as positive? If I’m understanding it correctly - FM has been way more art than science to me. No - it is either extra circuitry on the Lin FM input ...

Re: New Bugbrand modules: 2130 Thru-Zero VCO and Phaser - teaser video

Does the vco sound much different to the old one or just offer more functionality and patch points? Yes, I'm with Palle here - as far as I'm concerned, the waveforms are the same as for previous VCOs - who knows, there may be slight variance, but the key is what controls are offered. The wave-mix f...

I never found a decent one in that footprint & returned to using toggle switches - clearly much more expensive up-front, but I feel entirely confident in the reliability of the toggles.

Re: cgs123 switched matrix

Personally I'd say to be wary of that type of push-button switch -- I got tempted by them (latching ones) to replace the more expensive toggle switches, but found them generally to be far less reliable. Maybe there's some high-quality variant, but.. I never found one!

Yeah, filtering will do that.
If the filtering does that, then surrounding module design should ensure it is rectified.

Re: Elektor formant on mean well switching PSU?

My feelings & experience are that a switcher will work, but you may find modules exhibiting less than ideal performance - subtle areas - because old designs like Elektor often use the supply rails for references. Hence I would suggest a solid linear supply such as Power One & all that sort of standa...

Re: Single pin latching MTA or Molex hdr/socket solution?

Well, for I/O sockets you might just use a 2pin header with the 2nd connection being 0V - banana users just ignore the 2nd pin.
Surely for an SPST you'd still have 2 connections too?
