Re: Hardware/software synths with unique/original oscillator designs.

Mangrove is nice, but it can be pretty closely replicated with a function generator that doesn't reset in the rise stage, and a VCA that overdrives. Frap Tools actually demonstrates how to patch up a Mangrove-style formant oscillator with Falistri (step-by-step tutorial here ): https://www.instagra...

I can recommend the video course for Make Noise DPO from Ask Video. Link here. It's how I learned the fundamentals of complex oscillators.

Re: I stopped listening to the kind of music I make

I think this can be somewhat dangerous. In my opinion, it's good to have a steady diet of music that's at least in general proximity to the sort of music you create. It's the only way you'll get an idea of what cliches and overly present tropes are flooding this sort of music that you should sideste...

Re: Producers/Influencers & Eurorack

Man, watching that video from Noir Et Blanc Vie, and it's hard not to have ~opinions~ about the way he went about his modular journey. He fully admits it wasn't the best way, to be fair. But like... 1) He got into hardware modular before VCV Rack was a whole thing, I believe, but it would have total...

Re: Instruo Lúbadh stereo looper

1. The module is 18hp without the expander, 20hp with the expander. Keep in mind this separation potentially allows you to have the main 18hp module in one row of your rack, and the 2hp expander in another row above or below it, which I find helps when I'm using portable cases without much hp per ro...

Re: Filter freaks... What are your goto fat bass LPF flavors? Can I avoid the MF101?

My favorite Euro filter in terms of pure sound and tone is the ACL Discrete Core Ladder VCF. Demo video here . More than a filter, it's also a really great 3-input mixer with gorgeous, harmonically rich saturation/distortion when pushed. As a filter, it does Moog Ladder better than Moog themselves. ...

Re: Beads vs ADDAC112 vs Arbhar vs Miso

I think Neb v2 should absolutely be in the running. It holds its own with all the modules listed here, and is on the less pricey end of the spectrum (can be regularly had for $300-350 used). The 5 minutes of recording buffer time is more generous than Beads' buffer time, it has a really elegant deco...

Re: Beads vs ADDAC112 vs Arbhar vs Miso

By the way in case it's a factor in anyone's decisions, Instruo has teased in at least one place that Arbhar and Lubadh are going to be receiving "significant" firmware updates that "are really going to do some amazing things", these are in the works. Source.

Re: Beads vs ADDAC112 vs Arbhar vs Miso

Ultimately I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices. From what I've heard, seen, and read, they all sound really high quality and offer outstanding features. Granular in eurorack is a lot like complex oscillators in this way - incredibly difficult decision to choose between them, but...

Re: New poly synth/synth company - ASM Hydrasynth

Can anyone with a Hydrasynth confirm that it will perform side duty as an oscilloscope for eurorack (or any other CV or audio signal you want)? That seems to be what's going on in this video at around 2:33, but they never directly mention it and I haven't seen anyone discuss it. I've got a Hydrasynt...

Re: Do you own an oscilloscope?

I have an original O'Tool (not the +) which I picked up used for cheap. I find it incredibly useful for learning the behavior of module parameters, patching my complex oscillator based on more than just my ears and intuition, understanding what I accidentally programmed my Teletype to do, and confir...

Re: The esoteric out-to-out patching

All of the Mannequins modules are designed to allow out-to-out patching. You can use this for passive mixing of outputs with passive multiples or stackcables. In Three Sisters, for example, this can be done to alleviate distortion in the ALL output from, say, all three filters self-oscillating.

Re: Do I really need a quad VCA to start?

I'm a believer in getting what you need right from the outset without wasting time or money. To that end, I would even say that you should look for a hex or octal VCA module right now instead of going with 3 or 4 VCAs and then needing another module when that's not enough. I have a VOID Modular Hexa...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?

I still regularly see people selling used modules at 70% of new value, or lower. I generally only pull the trigger if that's the case. I think every, or almost every module in my rack has been a great deal that I waited patiently to stumble upon. In some cases, they were bought for more like 60% of ...

I had no experience with trackers and I took to it instantly, it's a lot easier to keep track of what's going on within your music than with step sequencers where you just have page after page of 16 steps. Yep, I'll echo this. I had a few false starts with Renoise but no other Tracker experience. I...

Disagreed--let's dig up Tarkovsky, Vertov, Artemyev, Bulgakov, and the rest and ask them whether they felt capitalist pressure was a major driving force in their creative processes. Capitalist, socialist, feudalist, tribalist, whatever--I think we have yet to see a socio-economic system in which th...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

I would think it hardly needs saying, but the drive to be a "producer" - to produce, to generate a product, to be productive - is inherently a capitalist drive and a capitalist pressure foisted upon us. So it's incoherent for me to hear that unless you're generating a finished product for others to ...

Anyone heard any news on this? From a recent interview (with Sonic State, I believe?), they said they've had delays due to Covid-19, so the June expected release date will likely get pushed back. They promised it would come "by the end of the year", but there's nothing more concrete than that unfor...

These are fantastic, thank you! If you're taking requests, I'd love one for Random Sampler (Marbles), which is something I use in both software and hardware but still need a good reference to make the most use of.
