Re: Say a few thousand dollars happens to fall in your lap. What would you buy?

Yeah, desktop + tablet/iPad is better than laptop. I don't have enough space for any extravagant hardware expansion right now - so coincidentally, that's what I'd buy. New iPad Pro kit, plus a new Mac Pro whenever the models on Apple Silicon show up. And a decent vacation with my girlfriend when it...

Re: Ever sell a synth and instantly regret it?

Hmmm. Yes and no? I’ve rotated through a fair amount of equipment over the years and have some regrets about most of them, but I’ve also accepted that I just like trying new things but have a finite amount of space in the setup. So in order to keep trying new gear, other gear has to find its way out...

I've used the Digitakt as a couch/travel box for a while now and like it in that format.

Hoping to step into a M8 tracker this year though.

Re: Your Favorite Acquisitions in 2020

Slipped pretty deep into retail therapy mode and bought a lot of stuff last year. Had some nice breakthroughs, though. #1 would be expanding my Eurorack setup. Took a long while, but I'm finally starting to feel like I have a decent sense of where I'm going with it and am making better decisions as ...

Re: How did you feel when you first started with modular?

Made my first attempt at modular several years ago, slowly amassed some stuff and it was months before I had enough bits together to make and control sounds. Was pretty directionless at the time, which proved to be a fatal flaw and I sold the whole thing off. My second go-around started with the foc...

Honestly, as someone who loves the Pulsar and has had it for over a year: If you want a normal drum machine, look elsewhere. Yep, this. I had one for a while earlier this year thinking that I was really gonna lean into the weirdness, ended up not working out but no regrets. If you're looking for a ...

Re: Dirty Lowpass Filter Options?

Ooof. Lots of good recommendations in this thread. Surprised at how cool the Stinggy Filter and the MS22 both sound, but ultimately still stuck on the original two I posted about. Decided to go with the 100 Grit for now - having two inputs with a backup use for each sounds dope, and it addresses ano...

Dirty Lowpass Filter Options?

Hi. I'm looking for a low-pass filter that isn't afraid to get dirty, filthy or both. Currently using a Vult Freak for this and it's not bad, but kinda hankering for a dedicated analog option. Right now the front runner is the E440 Discrete OTA VCF from Synthesis Technology. I pretty much love every...

Word. If the kick was ever separated out into a euro module I would jump on that pre-order IMMEDIATELY.

I travel for work on occasion but haven't lately because *gestures at world* Had a Digitakt and an OP-1 on the last trip I took, those worked out well. Have since sold the OP-1. Digitakt is awesome but I'm looking for something a little more portable. The current favorite is the Polyend Tracker - ha...

Re: Pictures of your techno rig for inspiration?

I don't really make techno, but I'd say that if you're feeling the Rytm or the Alpha or some other drum machine along those lines, I'd try that route first for sure. You can always add more elements in Euro down the line and it'll still be cheaper in the long run.

Re: Trigger/Drum Sequencers

Steppy's pretty nice and simple if you're only looking for triggers/gates and don't need anything else.

I think the Metron's the real beast in the category - especially when you start adding Volteras in the mix.

I'm looking forward to it. Lots of little things I'm liking. Comping is a huge quality of life upgrade, honestly shouldn't have taken this long to put it in there. Glad to see it includes MIDI comping as well. Templates - another one that shouldn't have taken this long. I was kinda meh on the new ef...

if you don’t already own it just look for newer alternatives, the market today is gigantic. if you want an analog 808 clone you can literally grip one almost brand new for less than $300 online. Yuuuup. Most of the pinnacle synths/samplers out there have inspired enough facsimiles that you could fi...

Re: When gear has lots of features you don't use do you want to downgrade?

Have definitely done this. Had a Digitakt, then added an Octatrack, felt like the DT was no longer needed and sold it only to miss its simplicity and pick up another one DT after the Octatrack was filtered out of the setup. A similar thing happened with the Rytm as well when I realized that the samp...

I have gear that I really, really like, but the only thing that I know I'll never part with is my Sandberg TM4 bass. Really hope to find a 5-string Jazz that plays just as well some day.
